MISSOURI GOP EXEC DIRECTOR: RAND PAUL'S COMMENTS ON DEMILITARIZATION, RACE 'UNHELPFUL'
Breitbart ^ | August 17, 2014 | By Tony Lee

Posted on 08/17/2014 4:47:47 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

The executive director of the Missouri Republican Party said Sen. Rand Paul was "unhelpful" when he said that black Americans have every right to feel that they are being specifically targeted by their government and police.

Matt Wills told The Hill that he feels for the community, but Paul's comments were closer to those made by Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), who also called for the police to be demilitarized. Willis said he lives "about 4.5-miles outside of Ferguson" and the "political response from Paul and McCaskill to what happened is a little premature" and "unhelpful."

"This is a tragedy for all communities – not just African-American communities," Wills said, according to The Hill. "I think this all just too much, too soon from these politicians. We're still learning new details. I can't fault the police for wanting to protect themselves and the community, and I also have a deep place in my heart for the civil liberties we have as Americans."

In his op-ed, Paul said that "it is almost impossible for many Americans not to feel like their government is targeting them," and "given the racial disparities in our criminal justice system, it is impossible for African-Americans not to feel like their government is particularly targeting them."

"Anyone who thinks that race does not still, even if inadvertently, skew the application of criminal justice in this country is just not paying close enough attention," he argued. "Our prisons are full of black and brown men and women who are serving inappropriately long and harsh sentences for non-violent mistakes in their youth."

Paul also wrote that "Americans must never sacrifice their liberty for an illusive and dangerous, or false, security."

Hopefully this finishes him off as a candidate. His comments are very troubling to me.

I’m starting to unlike Rand Paul. He seemed pretty good a while ago.

Same here.

As for militarization of the police, it is ridiculous for every Mayberry to have armored equipment and a SWAT group.
However, as one can see in Ferguson, it was completely necessary. Nobody goes to a riot armed with a handgun. There were snipers, molotov cocktails, thugs throwing bricks. Why wouldn’t the cops have heavy duty gear and vehicles? This is a totally different scenario.

Rand’s façade as a conservative has been stripped away. He is just as bad as his father.

Always tell a man by the company he keeps.

These last few days has been a massive eye opener.
Those who sided with the race baiters, Obama, black panthers and the kooky left have shown themselves.

They would rather talk about military police rather than the problems in the black community, or the robbing of a store or attacking a cop.

Paul has been pandering to the black and illegal vote for some time and yet this is another example of him showing his true colors.

I won’t ever vote for him, I;m done with those who try t have it both ways, and hell what is he doing in our primaries anyway, he;s more liberal tan most liberals

Saint Mike was dressed in a white t-shirt which is the uniform of gang bangers on the prowl. They commit a crime the ID process becomes harder because they and many dressed like him blend in. When Chicago was losing to the thugs over Mag. Mile gangs all the yutes were wearing white t-shirts. Good riddance to the rubbish and I do not care what the idiot and ignorant libtards think, I wish they would join him.

Hi BG.
If one thing has come out of all this as of yet it is those who showed their true colors.

I doubt the need for a lot of departments to be heavily militarized. That being said, I think a lot of the looters and arsonists should have been shot.

The ones near the “war zones” need to be. Mexican drug cartels are now using hand grenades. It’s a different world now.

In his op-ed, Paul said that "it is almost impossible for many Americans not to feel like their government is targeting them,"

Does he mean IRS targeting? The Department of injustice? How about Ruby Ridge and Waco? How about Clive Bundy? How about the victims of all the alphabet agencies, BLM, EPA, ATF, NSA? Are we seeing a pattern here?

I agree. The Departments near the border are confronted with problems Mayberry could never have dreamed about. On any given day, border departments might be confronted with criminals with extreme violence in their past, certified drug cartel members, and Islamic Terrorists. I want those Departments to be armed to the teeth.
