Multiple murders in cities such as Chicago don't get the same attention as a single murder in suburban St. Louis "because it's politically incorrect to blame the wrong people," Dr. Ben Carson told Fox News's Sean Hannity Monday night.
"If you have somebody, you know, like a police officer, that's an easy one to blame. But it's very difficult to blame a city council or a mayor that you like," he said. "We've got to stop picking and choosing who the villains are and who the good guys are."
Carson called for objectivity: "And in particular, you know, in the black community, I think we have to be honest with ourselves. And you know, let's go back and think about a time, you know, before the early '60s, tremendous progress that was made by black people in this country when they relied on family and they relied on each other and they had faith.
"And then what happened when we started relying on other people to do things for us and to tell us what we're supposed -- how we're supposed to think and who we're supposed to like and who we're supposed to follow? And where has that led? Not to a very good place. And we have to think about what we're talking about. You say, Death to the police -- try living for 24 hours with no police. I think you'll really find out what a difficult situation is."
Carson blamed "outside agitators" for stirring up trouble in Ferguson, Missouri.
"And I wish they would use that same energy to help us with what's going on in Chicago and Detroit and New Orleans and Washington, D.C., where just tons of shootings, murder, violence all the time, where we have tons of teenage pregnancy.
"Women giving birth, it ends their education. It sends their children into poverty. It continues the cycle of poverty and dependence. These are big problems for our country because we only have 320 or so million people. We're competing on a global stage against countries that have over a billion people. We need all of our resources to be developed and to be developed well. We can't afford this."
Carson said he'd like to ask the agitators, "What would you like to see happen?"
"There's an investigation that's going on," he said. "The legal process has been put into motion. What do you want to have happen that's not happening now? And let's hear a logical, cogent response to that."
Carson also said it might calm the situation if authorities would "expedite justice" and release information more quickly.
Murder?
Dr. Carson’s logic is impeccable. It is so easy to see how his intelligence coupled with the strong upbringing he had with his Mom helped him to accomplish great things and he may have his greatest accomplishments in front of him. If the black community was really smart, they would diss Sharpton and Jackson and make Dr. Carson their mentor and icon.
The old "lack of education" myth. Up until recently, a vast majority of Americans did not go to college. Many did not finish high school - but the USA was not a Ghetto.
We have lots of people today who have "education." That is, college degrees in "Art History," "Feminist Studies," and other useless degrees. These people can't find jobs, and are deeply in debt.
It is not "education" these people lack, but intelligence. You can push someone through the educational system all you want, and if they are a good athlete, stick them in college, but at the end of the day you still have someone of low intelligence.
He is right about the Black family unit up until the 60s,that’s when old Lyndon Johnson’s war on poverty, where he stated, give me this and I will control the Niggers for the next hundred years
“.....Lyndon Johnsons war on poverty, where he stated, give me this and I will control the Niggers for the next hundred years”......
Guess they are not getting enough because they are just about totally out of control. What do you think would happen when/if the “free sh$t” no longer was free? Try cutting them off and the results would be total disaster. You think robbery and looting is bad now........
TONS of minority kids are now brought into the colleges under a variety of government plans where they pay absolutely nothing.
They get free laptops, attend classes free, etc. NO money is paid by them or their parents.
After one semester MANY drop out keep the money and the lap tops.... they never had any intention of completing school and have just scammed the system AGAIN... THEY will not be educated under ANY circumstances... they don’t want to be.
Doing the ‘college thing’ was cool till it wasn’t ... then on to the next scam... complaining all the while!
That just jumped right off the page at me too, I’m hoping he did not mean to say it that way, but that’s what I look for in a leader, one who knows what he is saying, means what he is saying, and says what he means.
If it was a mistake, it is such mistakes that makes me weary.
Cogent observation. I grew up in a neighborhood that became 50% - 60% Black in the '50s - early '60s. The Blacks were our neighbors and friend and kept their properties maintained. All of us kids, Black and White alike, played with each other all day and never worried about bad things happening to us. The big "scandal" of the time was when a Black down the street married a blonde and the scandal was mainly the gossip of housewives as they visited for coffee. The man and his brother did very well and moved to the suburbs (one in the community where we ended up) and were upstanding citizens. After the race riots of the '60s (this is Rochester, NY), the same families split into groups that kept being good citizens and those who developed an innate hate of Whitey. The neighborhood deteriorated through the '70s and became a slum that wasn't safe to walk through.
Carson for president.
But, I do not believe he would make a good president. He is too mild mannered. I do not see a man of action here. I see an academic who would endlessly TALK about problems, but never DO anything about them.
He said yesterday (?) that officials should ask rioters & looters “What they want, what they expect to get out of rioting?”
I think we all know the answer to that: They want to do what they damn well please, no matter the harm caused to others. They want no police at all, not black, not white, not any. They want a authority free city, where they can steal, rape, & murder without fear of arrest.
This is what the criminals everywhere want. They want anarchy. They live in anarchy at home. It suits them. It's the ultimate freedom, consequences be damned.
Ben Carson would make an excellent ADVISOR to a president, but I do not see him convincing any criminal, domestic or foreign (Putin, Un, terrorists, the mullahs), to change their ways. I don't think he accepts that evil people exist who wont change their ways through mere dialog. Often, the only solution to evil is to stomp it out. I don't see Carson stomping on anyone.
eeek! Don’t call her that. I met her once and she was adamant that she be called his MOTHER, not Mom or Mama. I thought she was so rude (but effective at raising her kids)
Not for me, thanks. He's weak on the Second Amendment.
He said that racism was a factor in the Trayvon Martin incident, and that neighborhood watchmen should only be allowed to carry certain weapons, if any.
Also, the guy looks and sounds as though he's half asleep.
Never mind cutting them off from welfare, just come out and say the Police Officer in Ferguson was within his rights as,a Police Officer to protect himself from a,6 foot 2,200 pound thug from bum rushing him.
Watch what that would cause,do you think in this atmosphere there is one person in this country in a position of authority who will have the courage to go before a camera and announce that? If there is that’s who I would vote for.
Degrees are not education any more than road maps are highways. We are churning out college graduates who don’t have even an honest eighth grade education because they are being taught by people who have degrees but very little real education and very little common sense. The average young college graduate today could not pass the ENTRANCE exam for high school from 1960, don’t even mention the final exam to graduate. They are being taught in many cases by people who have far less of a real education than a high school diploma used to represent. When college graduates cannot correctly choose between there, their and they’re something is terribly wrong with the education system.
Catherine, I’ve met him and he’s really blindingly brilliant. He may not be the perfect conservative, but he’s conservative and thought provoking.
Hey, Shimmer!
I don’t doubt you...what is he again? A neurosurgeon?
He was the head of neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, but he retired.
