Lawrence Livermore and Lawrence Berkeley lab researchers, along with scientists from six other national laboratories, will take part in a state-of-the-art supercomputing project designed to model, simulate and predict the effects of climate change on Earth.

The 10-year Energy Department project -- Accelerated Climate Modeling for Energy (ACME) -- will develop and apply advanced climate system models on cutting-edge high-performance computing machines as soon as they become available, lab officials said.

"The (complex scientific) challenge simulations are not yet possible with current model and computing capabilities," Livermore National Laboratory atmospheric scientist and ACME council chair David Bader said. "But we developed a set of achievable experiments that make major advances toward answering the ... questions using a modeling system, which we can construct to run on leading computing architectures over the next three years."

And if it doesn’t arrive at the conclusion they all want, they’ll add a few tweaks.

Nonsense, pure nonsense. Just another welfare program for “scientists” who can game the system. What a bunch of crap.

What does a “computer model” have to do with reality? Garbage in, garbage out. “Computer models” are a joke.

It is an attempt to solve a set of equations that, frankly, has vastly more variables than it does equations. Any mathematician or engineer can tell you this is horse hooey.

Climatologists have not yet shown that their simple models can predict anything. Why would I believe that a more complex model will do any better?

There is also a concerted skeptics’ effort (e.g. WattsUpWithThat) to tie global temperatures to El Nino activity and it appears to make at least as much sense as CO2 warmism, if not more.

An El Nino activity can be traced to the eruption of a string of large underwater volcanoes off the coast of South America.

IOW: It is a result of geologic not meteorologic forces.

They’ve already answered one important question with this study, and that is “how much government money will turn a degreed physical scientist into a toothless grovelling prostitute?”
