Oakland , is the Mayor’s wife a Super Protester ?
I assume ships like this have a transponder of some sort. I wonder if it could be swapped out to show itself as another ship?
Probably an international regulation against that these days.
I suspect the ship was never headed to L.A. It probably went into a holding pattern.

This ship should go to Port of Astoria, Oregon, or Port of Longview, Washington. Both are on the Columbia River.
The ship should stay at sea until arrangements are made at either place for unloading cargo. The cargo, if unloaded at the Port of Longview, could be shipped overnight by rail to California, say, Sacramento. From there it can be forwarded to the intended receiver. Unfortunately, Astoria no longer has a dedicated rail connection to the inland rail lines running between California and Washington State.

Vesselfinder says that the ship is stopped at the port of Alameda.
Piraeus is a ten year old 53,000 ton container ship
The last port stop was Halifax, Nova Scotia which makes you wonder what the cargo is.
according to the article they unloaded the vessel.
probably, stuff for WalMart in the containers would be my guess.
My friend is a customs broker in the shipping industry. This sort of thing happens more than you think.
