I was driving in San Anslemo Marin County,.during the Loma Prieta Quake..stopped and tried to get on the FLOOR of my car..
Update 4 a.m.: KQED reporter Mina Kim lives in Napa, near the epicenter of this morning’s earthquake. She said she experienced violent shaking. In her words, “Everything came down” from the walls. “Our refrigerator moved across the kitchen. All the shelves came down.” She said she and her husband turned off their gas and are assessing the damage. She also reported a fire is visible in the distance, though she’s not sure what’s burning.
Todd Smoot, a KCBS editor, came on the air to report a major power outage in large parts of the Sonoma Valley.

Vallejo? We just left there a couple years ago. Fairfield is a lot closer to my wife’s job. Still get my mail there, though. Been between there, here and Napa since ‘74. Gettin’ on time to leave California for good, though!!! The crazy lefties are too far outta control!
Maybe we north bay types oughtta get together for coffee sometime soon, though.
“It woke me up here in the Pleasanton / San Ramon area of the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. It woke up my daughter too, but not my wife, it seems. It didn’t feel like a 6.0 here, though. However, it was rolling and rocking back and forth for what felt like a long time, though. At least 15 seconds, maybe longer.”

Wow. No damage here in Santa Rosa but my house moved for 20 seconds. (I always count lightning so I started to count right away.) some of that could have been house settling back down since were on pier and beam here.

Sounded like an explosion when I woke up. Running down the hall and screaming as all this stuff fell around me.

There may be more damage than expected because the epicenter was only 10 km (6.2 miles) beneath the surface. I wouldn’t be surprised that many retail stores near the epicenter—especially Napa and the American River Canyon section of Vallejo—may have collapsed shelving.
Update, 4:25 a.m.: KQED’s Craig Miller is touring the streets of Vallejo and says there are signs of emergency response in the areas he’s seen — damage to some building and sirens.
From KQED’s Scott Shafer: Cheri Hansen of the Napa County Sheriff’s office says: “Everything’s upside down here. Things have flown out of the cabinets. My computer flew off the desk. We have power because we have a generator.”

SJ Mercury News - PG&E reported severe outages in areas near Napa and Santa Rosa. Reports of downed power lines surfaced throughout the Bay Area. The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans are examining the major bridges but no closures have been ordered.
Many residents in the area near the epicenter reported some damage to their homes and sirens heard in the streets, but no major injuries or damage were immediately reported there or in outlying areas like San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose.
Just saw on KGO nooz the SR37 bridge overpass at SR29 at Sonomaa Blvd i Vallejo is very damaged.
Update 4:35 a.m.: From all the reports we’ve heard over the last hour-plus, it’s apparent that the worst of the damage from this morning’s quake is focused in the city of Napa and surrounding communities.
Unconfirmed reports — unconfirmed — relayed by KCBS say there’s been some road and possible bridge damage on Highway 12 in Napa and Highway 37 in Vallejo.
KCBS reporter Curtis Kim went on the air with a report that the CHP was closing one of the Highway 37 bridges in Vallejo. We’re not sure from the report which bridge it is.
