President Obama was given detailed and specific intelligence about the rise of the Islamic State as part of his daily briefing for at least a year before the group seized large swaths of territory over the summer, a former Pentagon official told Fox News.
The official -- who asked not to be identified because the President's Daily Brief is considered the most authoritative, classified intelligence community product analyzing sensitive international events for the president -- said the data was strong and "granular" in detail.
The source said a policymaker "could not come away with any other impression: This is getting bad."
Obama, unlike his predecessors who traditionally had the document briefed to them, is known to personally read the daily brief. The former Pentagon official, who has knowledge of the process, said Obama generally was not known to come back to the intelligence community with further requests for information based on the daily report.
The claims come as the Obama administration continues to launch airstrikes against Islamic State targets in northern Iraq and weighs whether to expand that campaign, particularly into Syria.
The president's team has publicly suggested that the group only recently gained in strength, accounting for why Obama earlier this year dismissed such extremists as akin to a "jayvee" team.
But after suggestions that the administration may have been blindsided by the rise of ISIS, and that poor intelligence was to blame, the former Pentagon official said some of the intelligence was so good in the region, that when the president drew a red line on chemical weapons use in Syria in 2012, the information was "exquisite."

I don't believe this, and think it was thrown out to make him look more knowledgeable and involved than most presidents. Remember, he attends no more than half of his intelligence meetings, and he seems to find out about many things after he reads them in the newspaper.

IS/ISIL/ISIS are Obama’s “children”.
Obama is protective of them.
Whether he actually reads the briefs or not, making people think that he does only leaves him more culpable.
I believe the claim. He obviously does not want to sit through a briefing about something he cares zip about (or worse, he actually is supporting the enemy which he is being briefed about). So sure - he asks for the document and says he'll read it (during the commercial breaks on whatever he's watching on ESPN).
This doesn’t mean he read his daily briefing. “Reading it himself” doesn’t mean he’s the smartest guy in the room. It means he didn’t care enough to be briefed and simply said, “Send me a memo.” ... on our national security.
How do we know he reads them? Because he tells us he does? Or we assume he does? A good opportunity for a political cartoon here, if it weren’t so frightening.

This doesn’t surprise me. How many issues did he hear about well in advance and did nothing? He heard about all the problems on the Obamacare website and did nothing. He is lazy and in over his head. He doesn’t know what to do. You could tell him two or three years in advance and he still would not know what to do.

He said he read it. Yeah Right more like he faked it. Then never asked follow-up questions
That is because Obama is a loyal Muslim and a direct and dangerous enemy of America.
No doubt he’s cheering them on and hoping they’ll attack America in some variety of truly vicious manner.
