Supporting the rebels in Syria will risk confrontation with Russia. Syria is not worth such a confrontation.
Obama will seek to strike Assad while claiming his intent is to weaken IS. Russia will see through such foolishness.
Now he has the delicate task of letting ISIS continue their mission while at the same time pretending to be fighting them so his polls don't slip.
He's probably hoping that his one speech will convince his loyal subjects that he's on top of it, and they can go back to their sports, pot, porn, rioting, race-baiting and other activities and forget about ISIS.

I sure liked how Obama said we will lead a coalition of 9 nations... Like he put it together himself... BUT, In reality, we just joined the other 8 nations. Seems to me that is the second time now that our Golfer in Chief has joined a coalition because he was looking weak, instead of taking the lead and starting it.
The core of my presidency is to track those down who align themselves with a radical strain of... conservatism, and who believe their actions are backed up by the Constitution. There will be no safe haven for them. My administration, the DOJ, the IRS, will degrade and destroy them.
As for ISIS. Meh. They’re not even Islamist.
