There is no such thing as a free lunch. It is paid for by tax dollars.

Not free. Somebody else is paying.

I did not come from a “poor” family, although dad’s business had good years and bad years. We could tell because we were either eating steak or hot dogs for dinner. But that was in the 60s and 70s, there wasn’t any free or reduced lunches I recall. And if so we didn’t do that.

Mrs. henkster & I had our own two boys, now aged 21 and 25. We had some pretty lean years for a while when the boys were in elementary school. Mrs. henkster chose to stay home with the kids, a decision I supported 100%. I didn’t make that much money, but I also chose to not kill myself in my career to spend time coaching their little league teams and spending time with them. We never, ever considered the free or reduced lunch program, although it was there and we could have qualified.

And I don’t regret any of those decisions, as the boys are now fine young men and we are proud of them.

Funny how when I was a kid, this type of stuff was handled by mom and dad.

Keep in mind, most students on a free lunch program are benefactors of the food stamp program too, kind of like double duty.

“What Gordon saw last week can be attributed, at least in part, to Lake Forest’s membership in a federally funded program that provides free breakfast and lunch to all students at 24 local schools, regardless of ability to pay”

Which equates to more people who no longer have to provide for their children.

Dogs obey whoever provides them their dog food. Trainer bred dogs can now have higher IQs than welfare bred people, and are more employable.

My mother-in-law, who is in her 80’s was dirt poor growing up in Mississippi.

She said her lunch every day was a homemade biscuit with country ham or some other meat. They were too poor to buy soft white bread from the store.

She said she didn’t mind much because there was always somebody with a white bread sandwich that wanted to trade for her biscuit.

The kids need the “free” breakfast and lunch so mom and the “fiancee of the week” can convert the food stamps into cigarettes, bum wine and lottery tickets.

I made hot breakfast for my kids every day before school, it varied every day from eggs to French toast to oatmeal or another hot cereal, all cooked on top of the stove, not in the microwave or toaster. I don’t exaggerate. They never ate cold cereal because I never bought it. While they ate breakfast, I packed their lunches which was usually a sandwich, chips, cookies and a piece of fruit or carrots if I had them. My mornings were busy.

I always get a sick chuckle out of “government funded”. Sheriff of Notingham comes to mind. ‘T weren’t the sheriff’s money.

Except when their mothers are too drunk to get them to school on time for free breakfast.

Then, they are still counted as “Hungry in America.”

And this is why all the sob stories about people going without eating to feed their kids on food stamps are BS. You see people with steaks or shrimp in line paying with a EBT card, well they don't have to feed the kids with that money.

I am contributing also. My contribution date is April 15 of each year. That is why each time I am asked ,”Would you like to contribute a dollar for __________”, I respond with, “No, I already contributed.”
