Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on Friday said restricting travel between the U.S. and West Africa would likely backfire and put Americans more at risk of contracting Ebola.
Appearing on MSNBC, Frieden was asked about potentially prohibiting air travel between the U.S. and West Africa, where the Ebola outbreak is most widespread. He said that such a restriction would likely be ineffective and would make it harder for health officials to root out the virus.
The only way were going to get to zero risk is by stopping the outbreak at the source in West Africa, Frieden said.
Even if we tried to close the border, it wouldnt work, the top health official added. People have a right to return. People transiting through could come in. And it would backfire, because by isolating these countries, itll make it harder to help them, it will spread more there and wed be more likely to be exposed here.
Friedens comments come as health officials continue to screen up to 100 people in Texas in connection with Liberian national Thomas Eric Duncan, who is in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Duncan flew to the U.S. on Sept. 19, but the CDC said that he was screened before his flight in Monrovia and showed no symptoms of Ebola. Health officials say his temperature was 97.3 degrees and that he was not contagious on the flight, meaning his fellow passengers were not at risk.
While in Liberia, Duncan had contact with a woman who had the virus and helped carry her from a taxi, according to The New York Times.
On Friday, Frieden said airport screenings are reducing risks. There are a lot of checks in place. Its not perfect, he said.
In several interviews and at a Thursday news briefing, the CDC director has expressed confidence that health officials will be able to contain the spread of the virus in the U.S.
On Thursday evening, NBC announced that a freelance journalist working for the network in Liberia had contracted Ebola and quarantined himself on Wednesday.
To understand this, you have to understand the Globalist Elites view of the world. They truly believe in shared misery and the thought that a deadly disease could be confined to a region in Africa is anathema to them. All must suffer and all must suffer equally. Put another way, they see Africa’s problems as our problem and they’re intent on demonstrating that by allowing the epidemic to come to the US. Thus, we’re all equals and now, equally miserable.
This Cloward-Piven strategy is unfolding right before our eyes
He’s only got two more years
It will get exponential
This is the 4th or 5th variation of the story I have read, supposedly from eye witnesses to the event
There is a reason for passports , they provide a record of travel. Without proper passports with appropriate custom stamps, no travel period. Disease was around 100 years ago, and immigration and travel screenings worked then, it can work today.
If we don’t shut down flights, we will be encouraging people to make a run for the US if they think they are sick.
Get to the US and guarantee the best possible care. It will be a problem.
...and no one is saying there would not be a process to evacuate American citizens from affected regions. Send a hospital ship down there, quarantine citizens until they are clear of disease, then let them come home.
LIberians, non-US citizens? No.
I’ve heard a couple - the taxi and the wheelbarrow. Maybe a wheelbarrow is a taxi for sick people? Point is, he knew she was very sick. He knew he was lying at the airport.
The game of Ebola Roulette continues...
*click* spin *click* spin *click* spin BANG!
Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!
Bring Out Your Dead
Were gonna need
a bigger cart!
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
This guy is such a weasel and a liar.
Yes, we can’t stop 100%, but if we stop most, that will slow things down dramatically.
My credit card company calls me and asks me where I am; it’s not like we can’t track where most people have been if we desired.
It’s PC bulls—t that is going to kill us.
THE reason the border is not closed is the disease carriers are black.
Exactly !
WHen there is no miracle cure , no vaccine ,and the only medical treatment is 30% survival
You do the ONLY COMMON SENSE thing
The “right to return” refers to Medical and Aid workers going there. For some reason he thinks closing the West African border means losing the key.
Straw Man. We are not asking you to CLOSE the border, just watch who comes in, especially from Ebola countries.
“What kind of convoluted logic is that?”
That is your typical liberal left wing logic.
Would anyone like to try and convince me liberalism isn’t a mental disorder?
I have no confidence in Mr. Frieden. He previously was Nanny Bloombergs health czar.
Plus, if you think about it, those arriving in America will be getting free medical care. How many of them have health insurance? How many of them will be able to pay the hefty hospital bills resulting from their treatment if they come to America for that purpose???
Magical thinking.
They would rather have ammensty and Ebola, than no Ebola.
This event is showing us what happens when liberals are in charge of our government.
We can all make a statement on election day in our own way about this and other issues.
I wish adults/conservatives were in charge now, so we would have leadership who would make appropriate decisions about this issue.
Let’s see....it is October and there certainly is a big distraction from years of RAT-driven political failures.
