The three established political parties of the United Kingdom announced their support for tax cuts at their recent conferences.

But it was the United Kingdom Independence Party and its leader Nigel Farage who announced support for tax cuts before the big three parties.

This turn of events showed just how scared the established parties are, willing to say anything to stop the party that beat all of them in the European Parliament elections earlier this year with 27 percent of the popular vote.

Today there are by-elections for two seats in the House of Commons.

One of the seats is in the south of England at Clacton.

That's where former Conservative MP Douglas Carswell, who resigned his seat when he switched parties to UKIP, is seeking election and is expected to win.

Carswell would be the first UKIP member elected to the House of Commons.

Meanwhile in the Greater Manchester area of England a seat held by the Labour Party is up for grabs at Heywood and Middleton.

UKIP is running second in the polls but is hoping to pull off an upset in areas where it captured 30 percent or more of the popular vote in the EU elections earlier this year.

The voters of the Liberal Democrat Party are being driven by a fear campaign from the Labour Party political machine into voting Labour to stop UKIP.

Results can be expected early Friday UK time. BBC One Television is planning to broadcast an election special starting at 7:20 pm Eastern Time in the United States.

A party that stands for something and means it is running in elections today in the UK. Too bad we don't have such a party in the US.

I’ll believe that they will when England gets its own Parliament.
