When guys find out I’m a virgin [author is a 26 year old female Christian]
Salon ^ | October 5, 2014 | Ellen Burkhardt

Posted on 10/13/2014 3:06:55 PM PDT by grundle

There’s no good time to tell a guy you’re a virgin. First date? Too much, too soon. Wait until the third date and you risk being considered a tease. Second date? Perhaps, but at this point you’re both still fretting over whether or not to eat another piece of bread; delving into sexual histories (or lack thereof) seems a bit extreme. So: There’s no good time to tell a guy you’re a virgin. Even worse? Telling him you’re waiting until marriage.

From what I’m hearing from my kids, the pendulum is swinging back the other way - chastity isn’t the stigma she’s making it out to be, for guys or girls.

the Christian ones are looking for someone who wants to wait until marriage.

Read the article, and see what she says about the "devout Christian" she dated.

Tell you what, reread the story of God’s provision of Rebekah as a wife for Isaac in Genesis chapter 24. Note verse 22.

I disagree with your insistence that what God laid out here was sinful. And yet, if there is any merit to your assertions whatsoever, Genesis chapter 24 has to be sin.

No matter how much you focus on externals like fashions not common to your generation there is no sin in a nose ring.

Go ahead and invent all the additional man made laws you want. Exceed the pharasees and become an Essene if you want.

Don’t expect everyone to laud your imagined piety.

There is no way to lose the mental nosering.

I’m sorry, but the facts bear weight here. Guys do not tolerate a chaste relationship because the have no reason to.

People used to remain virgins until their wedding night. Of course, people used to get married shortly after hitting puberty so they weren't tolerating chastity very long.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to demand chastity until marriage from both genders when people are putting off getting married until their late 20s-30s. It just isn't natural.

I would bet that the majority of the pew warmers will never be saved.

They don’t know why they are there, perhaps they think the pew will save them.

There are plenty of women, as you note tangentially, who do not care a whit about a chaste relationship. As for the women who will “give it up” without so-called baggage do have baggage. Lots of emotional baggage built up from being used as a sex toy over and over again. Then, there is the very real possibility that she has baggage of the VD variety.

How many of your test-driven cars do you still have 50 years later?

When my kids were small and they played rec leaque basketball we were told to have them use a ball that was the riqht size for their bodies because if they used a full-sized ball they would learn the wronq form and all their practice would only teach them how to do it the WRONQ way.

Sex before marriaqe is learninq how to have sex with somebody you’re not married to. Totally different than what marriaqe is, and that may be one reason that cohabitatinq before marriaqe actually increases the likelihood of the marriaqe endinq in divorce. If you’ve spent your lifetime learninq how to sample the field lookinq for somebody perfect, you’re not qoinq to stop doinq that just because you wear a weddinq rinq.

We’ve known people who cohabitated for a lonq time but when they qot married it was a totally different thinq, and they quickly divorced. They had learned to NOT be husband and wife, and couldn’t handle it when they tried to actually be husband and wife.

Probably because things progress to the point where it’s natural, and then she has to explain.

One does wonder if she is a bit too analytical for her own good with these men though.

I can see where she’s coming from with some of them.

I hate to say this, but this woman seems well on her way to old-maid hood.

The longer women wait, the less likely it is they’ll find someone and settle down.

It’s the same for men. You become so accustomed to your own space, your own way of doing things, so territorial, that it becomes a challenge to let go of that.

She seems well on her way to that already.

There is one thing worse than not being a virgin when you get married.

Dying one. If people think God approves of that, I’ve got news for them.

Makes no sense.

It doesn't make sense to me either, but I'm not in my mid twenties...tattoos are no longer a cultural taboo, they are statements of who you are...

I don't necessarily agree with that idea, but it is what it is to today's generation ...

Kind of like going out and committing sodomy to celebrate getting saved.

Seriously ? LOL...a tad over the top...

Doesn’t a tattoo send a certain message about oneself? Aren’t our bodies our temples? Why deface a temple?

I don't disagree but in young people of today...they would not consider it being defaced, but rather a upgrade...

True, one would have to bow to Mary, or some statue, huh?

I guess a bone through the nose and a plate in the lip are okay with some people. I just thought our people had become a bit more civilized

She is not on the way to being an old maid because she waited, but because she is stupid and looking for the wrong kind of guys or looking for Mr Right in places he would never go
