This is obviously a cover-up.

The gut reaction is to say “Bush was right.” This actually makes me question President Bush who obviously had this information suppressed. It led directly to the demise of the republican party at just the time that we needed one more supreme court justice to change this nation.

The revelation now means that the powers that be want to re-enter Iraq with boots on the ground and realize they oversold their own lies. Those lies are now preventing them from doing what they want.

So they attempt to walk them back

Many freepers knew this all along. Many (including me) had troops who said they’d encountered WMDs. Their lone voices never surfaced in the media.

Pure cover-up.

There WERE reports of WMDs during the Iraq war.

The MSM and liberal retort was “Oh, those are OLD WMDs”

I remember during the height of Operation Iraq Freedom, there were several reports of our soldiers finding ‘stockpiles of WMD’ (some with video footages). Only to be told that chemicals were dual-use or something like it.

Hence the perpetual “Bush Lied about WMD” meme to get us into an unnecessary war.

Now THEY are telling us, our men and women DID find WMDs but it was covered up?

For Heaven’s sake, WHY? WTF @$^&#*&

This one throws me for a loop. When these were found, one would think the Bush administration would’ve trumpeted it with the grandest “told you so” messaging possible.

I don’t understand America anymore.

LIES! My Editor at the time told me to my face that the soldiers coming back with these stories were only looking for attention. The Dems assured him there were no WMDs.

I recall seeing pics and text of found chemical warheads. ‘See there are WMDs !’.

The MSM blew it off with, ‘Those are leftovers from previous stockpiles, old stuff. Their not from a new batch, therefore they don’t bolster the argument as to why we went to war a second time.’

Bush probably didn’t say anything out of some stupidly misguided notion that he had to keep this quiet for “national security reasons” or some other reason “for the good of the country.” Its the reason he got his ass handed to him in the publicity wars with the Dems. He tried to “take the high road” and they sucker punched him and knifed him in the back and he ended up with toxic level approval ratings because of it. Bush had some good qualities but his refusal to fight the Dems destroyed him.

People should actually read the NYTimes article all the way through. The problen is our troops were exposed and injured and this was covered up. It is not clear why it was covered-up nor is Bush or any top admin officials blamed.

Also in 2009 Iraq took the responsibility for decommisioning old ordinannce and some of them were also injured by chemical weapons.

Also a big area with old chem weapons is now controlled by ISIS.

Why is NYT telling us this? Why is NYT telling us this now?

Well, the use of WMD by ISIS is soon to be uncoverupable. It is going to be another major screwup of the left's conception of what should have been done in Iraq.

Hillary was SoS and a major foreign policy 'brain' during most of the period.

Hillary needs this to be brought out now so that there's 1. enough time to spin it ["Hillary voted for invasion"] and 2. so that it will be 'old news' by 2016.

An inconvenient truth is that even President Bill Clinton said that there were WMDs in Iraq, and actually bombed Baghdad to destroy them because they were a threat to the U.S.

As I have often posted here on FR:

On December 16, 1998, on the eve of the scheduled House vote on his impeachment, Bill Clinton launched a surprise bombing attack on Baghdad.

As justification for this exploit, he cited the urgent threat that Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction posed to America, and the need for immediate action.

Almost immediately, the House Democrats held a caucus and emerged calling for a delay in the impeachment proceedings. House minority leader Dick Gephardt made a statement: "We obviously should pass a resolution by saying that we stand behind the troops. I would hope that we do not take up impeachment until the hostilities have completely ended."

Conveniently, a delay so near the end of the House term would have caused the vote to be taken up in the next session – when the newly elected House membership would be seated with more Democratic representation, thereby improving Clinton’s chances of dodging impeachment.

The Republicans did, in fact, agree to delay the hearings, but only for a day or two. Amazingly, Clinton ended the bombing raid after only 70 hours -- once it became clear that in spite of the brief delay, the vote would still be held in the current session.

Once the bombing stopped, Clinton touted the effectiveness and importance of the mission. As reported by ABC News : “We have inflicted significant damage on Saddam's weapons of mass destruction programs, on the command structures that direct and protect that capability, and on his military and security infrastructure,” he said. Defense secretary William Cohen echoed the point: “We estimate that Saddam's missile program has been set back by at least a year.”.

Were these recently built weapons, or were they old weapons found almost randomly/accidentally in back corners of warehouses and bunkers?

Based on past stories of old/lost weapons being found, I’m inclined to believe that the Bush Admin spoke what they believed to be the truth, under the caveat that they were speaking of known/documented, combat-ready chemical weapons, which weren’t found.

As an example of how I’m thinking about this, consider that there’s a fairly sizable “stockpile” of chemical weapons inside DC itself. They’re buried behind American University, where they were dumped at the end of WWI. The Army’s spent 20 years trying to locate all of them and dig them out. But does the fact that a bunch are certainly still there mean that the US is in violation of it’s promise/assurances that out stockpiles have been destroyed?

I read some of this and found it to be a blame BUSH article. Bush sent them in harms way did not tell them about the chemical’s and now the troops are sick? Did not finish this article.

I see this as an indictment of the American Press. Everyone knew Saddam had WMDs and that he had used them. The American Press knew this. They were afraid that this President Bush might get an approval rating of 92% like his father had after DESERT STORM. The American Press believe they are paid by the Democrats. They had to keep President Bush from having that kind of approval rating. So, they changed the dialogue from a madman having and using WMDs to a debate about whether there were WMD factories in Iraq. They kept the second President Bush from increasing his approval rating which, in turn, helped give us Barrack Hussein Obama as President. The American Press really deserves a good kick in the ass.

‘Freedom’ is an illusion. Dhimmicrats and Pubbies are two sides of the same coin. Business and government are made by people, by their very nature, people resist change, so since Big Government and Big Business have controlling power, they choose to maintain such power, squeezing the entrepreneur and the average Joe who doesn’t toe the line. Eisenhower warned of the ‘millitary-industrial complex’. This has grown into the ‘politico-media-industrial complex’. Nazi Germany worked under such a system and we are VERY close to becoming such a system where government and big business control all and we are mere cogs in a vast system. The only ‘freedom’ that remains is in Christ.
