6 witnesses including one on video conference. All have been sworn in. All have waived their right to counsel during the hearing. Each will now make max 5minute opening statements, starting with Dr. Frieden.
Dr. Frieden saying 74 people from threat zone were turned away in the last couple of months for having fevers. None of them turned out to have Ebola.
Now reviewing the questioning and steps that CDC has taken so far to deal with Ebola. Says they have fielded 300 calls from doctors about potential cases of Ebola and ‘only one’ Mr. Duncan tested positive. He then quickly added that one is too many.

Q: Dr. Frieden, how long is the incubation period for EVD?
Q: How long after symptoms develop would an individual be well enough to travel?
Q: Given the slope of the epidemic curve, how many infected persons would you estimate pass through screening because they are still in the asymptomatic phase for every one with a fever you find?
Q: Do you believe patients dying of Ebola should be allowed to have sugary drinks?
Q: Do you believe the heat from the dead bodies contributes to global warming?
Q: Other than President Obama, who else do you believe functions as a lightbringer in our world today?
Dr. Fauci announced that Nurse #1 (Ms. Pham) will be transferred to the NIH for treatment.

I just caught an arrogant woman stating emphatically that there is NO FORTRESS OF AMERICA, or something like that. Wow - they really do hate their own country. A fortress is exactly what it should become until this thing is over with.

They’re each still making 5 minute opening statements. There are six witnesses and we’re on number 3. Questions and any potential fireworks should start in about 20 minutes.
Why they have so many witnesses is unclear to me. Only one or two will be asked questions!

It certainly takes the pressure off of Dr. Frieden.
He just defended the denial of entry argument again. The questioning congressman ran out of time to get a response to his incredulity over this asinine policy. Now it just moved to Waxman.
So far this is the tamest hearing I’ve seen. No way are any of these people going to resign.
How difficult is it to check people’s passports to see where they originated from? Yes, “borders are porous,” you condescending swine Frieden, but how far can sickly people really make it, and how many would that actually be?

These time limits are preventing full questioning at this hearing. A couple of the congressman have limited answers to yes/no and run out of time at crucial moments.
