Joni Ernst Is the GOP's Breakout Star. The Democratic Machine Could Still Beat Her.
National Journal ^ | October 19, 2014 | Shane Goldmacher

There is certainly plenty going right for the Iowa GOP in 2014: an unpopular Democratic president, a favorable political climate, and a popular GOP governor cruising to reelection atop the ticket. But as they are in Senate races across the country—Colorado, Alaska, North Carolina, to name a few—Democrats here are hoping smart tactics can offset a national mood that favors Republicans. And in Iowa, fears of the Democratic machine lurk not far below the surface.

"Am I confident? Of course," Oman says. "Am I overconfident? Of course not."

What the Republicans also have going for them this year is Ernst herself, a folksy state senator and lieutenant colonel in the Iowa National Guard who has emerged as one of the breakout stars of 2014. She burst through a crowded Senate GOP primary with an ad touting her farm-girl roots castrating hogs. "Let's make them squeal!" she said of Washington spenders. The ad drew national attention (627,000 YouTube views and counting) and a deluge of donations.

It hasn't hurt that Ernst has a toothy grin and would be the first female combat veteran to serve in the Senate—"Mother. Soldier. Independent leader." is plastered on her campaign RV. Or that she is running in the 2016 caucus-kickoff state—Republican presidential contenders have been tripping over themselves to fly into Iowa to help. Ernst hauled in $6 million in the third quarter, the most of any candidate in the country in any quarter this cycle.

"She's got momentum. She's got charisma. But Democrats have great organization there," former top Obama strategist David Axelrod said of the race on MSNBC earlier this month.

This is so true, our side is still behind on the ground game, though it’s doing better than in 2012.

Want to know why Ernst is still in doubt? All those ads and soundbites that made her a rising star are from the primary. Her campaign in the general has been lackluster and emphasized her moderate bona fides.

She has been courageous and forthright lately in the defense of the lives of the unborn. Go Joni!

MSM news has been all about Obama "cancelling" his appearances at crucial Dummycrat fund-raisers----as a ruse to pretend he's "concerned" about Ebola---but savvy observers conjecture that Democrats dumped him. Dummycrats' been hearing from the grassrroots----Americans can't stand the sight of the ding-a-ling. Boobamba's visibility would remind Democrats watta lulu they picked.....that would depress the Democrat vote even further.

It's been hinted that candidates do not want Moshelle around either.

=========================================================

IOWA DEMOCRAT SCHMUCK Rep. Bruce Braley's classless remark at a Texas fund-raiser about longtime Senator Chuck Grassley being "just a farmer" had such a lasting impact that months later, when Braley said that his first call as senator would be to Grassley, the audience burst into laughter. Then there is the story of how Braley threatened a neighbor with a lawsuit over her pet chicken. It revealed him to the world as Congressman Schmuck.

============================================

Course, it's hard to think like Team-O's criminal Chicago politicians---but I'm pretty certain a lot of money to facilitate Dummycrat voter fraud will be used extensively in Iowa--- b/c if Dummy Braley loses, Hillary will be in a political mess.....and the long knives will be out for Michelle for screwing up her campaign appearance there. Surrounded by huge campaign posters Michelle kept calling Braley "Bailey."

After all, now that she finally "likes" her country and has a bit of self-esteem after "years of oppression" in elite schools.....the Obama criminal vote fraud machine can't let her royal ambitions be tarnished...even if reading a campaign poster is beyond her meager intellect.

===========================================

THIS WE KNOW---Boobamba would rather eat Michelle's boiled unsalted kale stems rather than face a Republican- controlled Congress. That's why the lamebrain prez is importing Ebola patients from all over the world ---just in time to vote illegally.

I live in Davenport, a refugee from Cook County, IL.

There are dedicated leftists in Iowa City, Des Moines and Davenport who will vote for anyone the socialists put on the ballot.

Send money and support to Joni. She is the real deal.

It would be amazing to replace a Marxist like Tom Harkin with a conservative patriot like Joni Ernst.

If Iowans were very conservative, Tom Harkin - a far left-winger - would not have been the state's junior senator for decades.

So, is the real Joni the conservative appealing to primary voters or the moderate appealing to general election voters?

Given the wishy-washy nature of IA's electorate, as long as she's not a Tom Harkin clone, her victory would be a net gain for the GOP.

But would she have gotten the nomination if she had portrayed herself as a moderate in the primary?

Liberals want liberals. Despite GOP liberal claims that they actually want conservatism to win, they applaud liberals who lie and claim they’re conservatives. Why would they do that?

By definition. Liberals want liberals, moderates want moderates and conservatives want conservatives. Nobody knows where Ernst truly stands on the issues, except the people she's known all her life. And even then, people have been known to mask their true beliefs so as to get ahead in politics. Case in point - Marco Rubio re immigration. We'll find out what she really thinks if she wins.
