The Flu, TB and Now Ebola: A Rare Legal Remedy Returns (and a fake med worker)

And the virus has presented at least one unusual challenge for law enforcement agencies, senior American officials said on Sunday. They described how agencies had urgently investigated a man who wrote a bizarre post on social media that he was going to try and contract Ebola in Africa and then return to the United States.

According to senior American officials, the man traveled to the West African country of Guinea in the past month in the hopes of working alongside humanitarian assistance organizations treating patients. The organizations quickly determined that the man had no medical expertise and was acting strangely, and they turned him away

Even though his Facebook post indicated that he was mentally unstable, mentioning a time machine at one point, a multi-agency investigation was launched that involved the F.B.I., Customs and Border Protection, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In Guinea, C.D.C. officials interviewed the man and took his temperature several times, and determined that he showed no signs of the virus. The C.D.C. had no legal ability to hold the man and he is not in the custody of American or Guinean authorities there, American officials said Sunday.

By Sunday night, officials said they do not believe they can stop him from returning to the United States, but said federal authorities would be closely monitoring him when he arrived, likely in the next several days.

“It’s not that we were trying to prevent him from returning, we were just ensuring that he didn’t pose a health risk to other travelers,” said a senior American official. “When we determined that he didn’t pose a risk we had no issue with him flying home.”

more on this:

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Vermont Health Officials say a Rutland, Vt. man, posing as a doctor, is under a voluntary quarantine after going to Guinea and Sierra Leone. The person went to West Africa to help.

Officials say the man traveled to Guinea and Sierra Leone to provide medical assistance, but it’s unclear whether he treated anyone. Governor Shumlin said he’s not a licensed medical professional.

When Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Vermont Officials learned about his return to the U.S., they went to pick him up at JFK Airport and bring him back to Vermont.

The man has been put in voluntary quarantine for 21 days in Vermont. The man has not tested positive for the Ebola virus and has shown no symptoms.

“We do not know whether this person had exposure to the virus while in West Africa,” said acting Health Commissioner Tracy Dolan. “Because we can’t determine this – and combined with what we know about this person’s unsupervised travel, intent to help as a medical doctor, and his statements – we are taking the precaution of quarantine while we actively monitor temperature and symptoms for 21 days.”
Governor Shumlin and health officials say this person poses a low risk of contracting the virus and spreading it to the public.

The man is being held at an undisclosed rural location. The state is paying for his housing and treatment.

The Health Department says Ebola is not spread by casual contact. It is not spread through the air, water or food produced in the U.S. Ebola does not spread easily from person to person like the flu, measles or active tuberculosis.

Rutland Mayor Christopher Louras issued this statement regarding voluntary Ebola quarantine:

“On October 27th, a Rutland resident returned from West Africa and due to the uncertainty surrounding his intentions while there, officials have determined that the right thing to do was to offer the opportunity to voluntarily self-quarantine for the disease’s 21-day incubation period.

Over the last several days, the City of Rutland and the State of Vermont have been working tirelessly and collaboratively to find a safe, secure location for this Rutland resident, and we have been successful.

Since his return to the U.S. there has been unbroken contact with the Vermont health operations team, which includes both law enforcement and public health officials, and because he has been asymptomatic for the entire period there has been absolutely no risk to either public health or safety.”

There are many ways to commit suicide, there are many variations of Russian roulette.

Ebola just presents one more method.

To some VERY warped individuals this may seem more honorable, even heroic.

But ancient Church teaching holds that martyrdom is never to be actively sought.

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(hat tip to: fivecatsandadog!)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

"There are many ways to commit suicide, there are many variations of Russian roulette."

From the article:

"...wrote a bizarre post on social media that he was going to try and contract Ebola in Africa and then return to the United States."
This is not merely suicide or any variation of Russian roulette.

This is attempted biological terrorism! Only a nation mentally impaired by leftwing ideology/ideologists would treat it as anything else.

Lets see where the logic is : Duncan: agent American Zero
Two hospital healthcare workers :
Vinson (the traveler from texas to Ohio) 180 monitored acrossed the country
Nina Pham (boyfriend) (and traveled on vacation)unknown how many monitered
Dr. Craig Spencer (Dr. serving inWest Africa) went traveling on NYC subway, and went bowling) possible contaminated subway, and Uber car(# monitered NYC unknown).

WHERE IS THE FREAKING LOGIC ??
and another thing noticed, where is Duncan's fiancee's family ?
Its like they disapperared right after announcing that the fiancee was going to write a book about the expeirience.
Sorta like Benghazi - dont listen to the talkers, see who is missing, and why are they sequestered ?

A functional schizophrenic getting messages from ISIS about Allah wants you to go there, get ebola and go home is more likely.

themidnightskulker:" What happened to that homeless guy that was transported in the ambulance after Duncan?"

Good Question !
With this administration , the key question is not what is being seen ,
but rather ,the things that are missing (ie: Benghazi; Duncan's fiancee's family , Hastings , etc.)
One of the interesting things about the homeless is that they remain anonomous and difficult to track.
Honestly , I don't know what happened to him .

Duncan's fiancee's family

The family gave a media interview at least twice, late in their potential incubation period and afterwards. Turns out they were not infected. It may mean Ebola is not easy to catch at the stage Duncan was at. Or it may mean little or nothing since every case is unique and Duncan could have been a clean freak.
