Maybe he knows the Administration may already have let out his identity? If so, this could be the “hiding in plain sight” tactic: kind of like Ann Barnhardt gives out her address in case any terrorist wants to risk being shot up if they are so foolish to provide occasion for her marksmanship to be tested.

It may come down to professional pride and personal vanity, meaning, perhaps an impostor has been saying he is The One who fired the killing shot, and has been making money doing so. It’s still a very bad idea.
