Mitt Romney: GOP Senate Will Put Immigration Reform On President's Desk
Huffington Post ^ | Nov 2nd, 2014 | Arthur Delaney

WASHINGTON -- Former Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney said Sunday that if Republicans win the U.S. Senate after Tuesday's election, they will send immigration reform legislation to the president's desk.

"You'll see a provision first of all to secure the border, second of all to deal with those who have come here illegally and third [to] make sure our immigration policies are open and transparent," Romney said on "Fox News Sunday."

"That's going to happen," Romney continued. "You're going to see a bill actually reach the desk of the president if we finally have someone besides Harry Reid sitting in the Senate. We're going to get it done."

No matter what happens Tuesday, we’re getting an open border.

And you wonder why Politicians are laughing and crapping on us. :)

“You’ll see a provision first of all to secure the border, second of all to deal with those who have come here illegally and third [to] make sure our immigration policies are open and transparent,” Romney said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Yes, and they’ll trust Barry to implement it.

We’ve been promised improved border security and enforcement so many times, and had Lucy pull the football away each time. To think that the GOP-e is serious about border security is ludicrous. They want to appease the Chamber of Commerce interests, period.

Sure, secure the border. With a piece of paper.

Princeling Barry is on record saying that he won't secure the border or enforce any immigration laws.

I guess Mitt and Mitch McConnell could put on some uniforms and head down to El Paso themselves....

Border security is all we want.
We’re like a broken record, saying it over-and-over:
“Secure the border—really-do it, and we’ll talk about immigration law reform.”
If the Mitts, Pelosis, McCains, Reids, Grahams et al. planned to actually try and secure our southwestern border, they would have tried to do it by now.
But they haven’t done it—they haven’t made any good faith efforts—because they don’t want it done.
They have no intention of doing it, of securing our border.

This exercise in Logic 101 is something that even native libertarians should be able to understand.

Like Orson Welles selling Gallo wine: (looking at his wristwatch) “We sell no wine before it’s time ... “
once the Dems and their RINO friends like Boehner, McConnell, Graham, McCain, et al. feel the time is right, they will declare the border secure and give 20-30 million Mexicans and central Americans, and miscellaneous other lawbreakers .... amnesty. And the border will remain porous.

“GULLIBLE!

Some folks never get over it.”

Like race-baiting, Dem spendthrifts—securing the border is just, well, too darned expensive, but recall Barry just spend hundreds of millions to handle the childrens’ crusade that came to Texas last spring and summer at his request from central America—and their GOP-e allies never tire of urinating down our legs with this “border security” BS, then, wide-eyed, they say:
“Hey look. We made it rain ... for Heavens sake, get to the polls on Tuesday and vote for us!”

Well, my cow died a while back so I still don’t need their bull.
Conservatives will get my votes. No RINOs: FUGOPe.
No liberals, moderates or libertarians.
Period.

I also urge you to consider the publication...

Huffington post, writing an article not about what was said to them or one of their own reporters. Some HP columnist was sitting on his couch watching Fox News Sunday, and picked out this piece of the discussion for an article.

They are TRYING to rile you up, and discourage you.

I consider the spin on this article to be successful. They have achieved their goal. Conservatives are upset and saying exactly what they want them to say... Why bother voting republican, I might as well stay home.

I fear some of you have been played by the leftists at HuffPo.

Are you serious? My comment was based entirely on the sorry history of Washington failing to live up to legislative commitments to improve border security and enforcement, from the Reagan amnesty that failed such to the promised 700 miles of fence, much of which was never built.

This isn't the Huff Post spinning. This is the sorry reality of the GOP-e. And you're shilling for those turncoats big-time here.

"On June 18, 2010, Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl told the audience at a North Phoenix Tea Party town hall meeting that during a private, one-on-one meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, the President told him, regarding securing the southern border with Mexico, “The problem is, . . . if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’” [Audible gasps were heard throughout the audience.] Sen. Kyl continued, “In other words, they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’”

I’m discussing this article.

You appear to be discussing broader policy.

But this article is in fact spin from a leftist, and the headline is intentionally provocative to people, like you, who are disillusioned by past failures.

Are you right to distrust the Washington republicans on this issue, absolutely. I’ve already said that earlier in this thread.

But the headline, and much of this discussion, have little to no relation to what was actually said by Gov Romney this morning. Gov Romney was trying to reassure republicans that legitimate actual necessary reforms would be passed and they would put this issue at the president’s feet. Dare him to veto real reform.

I know it is Sunday, but in my mind, I am giving this man the finger. And to think, I gathered my neighbors together for a prayer meeting for him the night before the election.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t get the reference. Cheese? I’m assuming it’s some sort of personal insult, so don’t bother explaining. I’d rather talk about what this article actually says. That is the topic, correct?

I guess I just don’t understand the vitriol. People seem to be reacting to the headline rather than reading the article.”

When it comes to any article with Romneys name in it, most here don’t actually read what it says. They just automatically launch into attack mode. They like to see who can hate him the most, use the most disparaging language, etc. against him.

I think most of the posters here want to secure the borders, but when Romney says he want’s to pass a law to actually secure the borders, they are against it because they’ve said that before and haven’t done it. Well by that logic then ANY time it’s brought up you have to be against it because it’s been mentioned before. You can’t debate that kind of thinking.

Do what I do, just read the Romney threads for entertainment. I find them quite amusing.

Throw another law onto the heap of laws that already require the same thing...That’s the ticket.
