Mitt Romney: GOP Senate Will Put Immigration Reform On President's Desk
Huffington Post ^ | Nov 2nd, 2014 | Arthur Delaney

WASHINGTON -- Former Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney said Sunday that if Republicans win the U.S. Senate after Tuesday's election, they will send immigration reform legislation to the president's desk.

"You'll see a provision first of all to secure the border, second of all to deal with those who have come here illegally and third [to] make sure our immigration policies are open and transparent," Romney said on "Fox News Sunday."

"That's going to happen," Romney continued. "You're going to see a bill actually reach the desk of the president if we finally have someone besides Harry Reid sitting in the Senate. We're going to get it done."

That's an argument to keep Harry Reid in there.

It was never a question of if the Republicans would implement Amnesty, only a question of how they would do it and when they would do it.

Romney is letting us in on the GOPe plans.

Mitt has no credibility with me. I voted for him twice. Once in the 2008 primary. When I got home from the polls, I learned that he had withdrawn from the race. Again in 2012. He went MIA two weeks prior to the election. He’s a two-time loser with me.

Re: “You’re going to see a bill actually reach the desk of the president if we finally have someone besides Harry Reid sitting in the Senate. We’re going to get it done.”

That’s what we’re afraid of, Mitt.

Again, how can there be any talk of “immigration reform” when the Feds have not followed previous immigration law enforcement, and, the border is still not secure.

It’s like the old saw when one of your checks bounces, you say, “if it bounces, let me know and I will write you a new one.”

The President would have to find some gimmick to protect the border, which just isn’t going to happen. Nor will the Republicans volunteer to shore up the border...just to keep him in a negative view.

So securing the border, dealing with illegals, and creating a transparent system are bad things?

Aren’t these the things republicans have been saying need to happen?

We seem to have come so far in this debate that anything labelled ‘immigration record’s is assumed to be a bad thing and is assumed to include amnesty.

The system needs to be fixed and it then needs to be enforced.
How is fixing the system with actual border security as a first step bad?

Send up a bill that 1) secures the border, and 2) deports anyone here illegally. The end.

I know I’m dreaming aren’t I?

"The is no interest in securing the borders."

I'm not so sure about that. With Ebola, and the OTM "Asian" threat, there's interest. There's even interest among Illegals not wanting competition from the newer arrivals. Unfortunately the interest continues to be outweighed by the left's talking point that securing the border is 'anti-hispanic'.

make sure our immigration policies are open and transparent

That by itself would be a dramatic departure from the past.

Our rulers have never been transparent about immigration policies. How many? From what countries? Based on what criteria? If they let in a million a year legally, how did they arrive at that number? Who decided that was the magic number?

And most of all, how does that benefit the citizen?

No one involved with immigration policy gives two hoots how it benefits the citizen. They don't plan to ask you your opinion, they don't intend to seek your approval, and they won't try to explain how they arrived at the policies and numbers they arrived at.

So, the promise for transparency would be a dramatic change if you could believe it. At this point, I don't believe much if anything these guys say. But he's the first to actually promise "transparency".

Let’s just say for a minute the GOP senate puts an immigration bill on Obolas desk and he signs it. That does not mean he will enforce it.

I’m sorry, but I don’t get the reference. Cheese? I’m assuming it’s some sort of personal insult, so don’t bother explaining. I’d rather talk about what this article actually says. That is the topic, correct?

I guess I just don’t understand the vitriol. People seem to be reacting to the headline rather than reading the article.

The immigration and border control system need fixing. That’s a fact.

Start with the border before we even think about how to deal with those here already. Stop the influx. Stem the tide of the invasive migration.

Stop making policy in the dark of night and protecting the policy documents from the light of day with ridiculous assertions of executive privilege and homeland security.

Isn’t that what we want?

To say the devil is in the details would be true. To be skeptical they will have the backbone to include the details that are really needed would be reasonable based on past history.

But to scream that this article provides some sort of smoking gun that a Republican Senate will equal mass amnsety equivalent to that proposed by Ried and Obama is ludicrous.
