BEIRUT The Obama administrations Syria strategy suffered a major setback Sunday after fighters linked to al-Qaeda routed U.S.-backed rebels from their main northern strongholds, capturing significant quantities of weaponry, triggering widespread defections and ending hopes that Washington will readily find Syrian partners in its war against the Islamic State.
Moderate rebels who had been armed and trained by the United States either surrendered or defected to the extremists as the Jabhat al-Nusra group, affiliated with al-Qaeda, swept through the towns and villages the moderates controlled in the northern province of Idlib, in what appeared to be a concerted push to vanquish the moderate Free Syrian Army, according to rebel commanders, activists and analysts.
Other moderate fighters were on the run, headed for the Turkish border as the extremists closed in, heralding a significant defeat for the rebel forces Washington had been counting on as a bulwark against the Islamic State.....
...Another Western-backed group, the Syrian Revolutionary Front, on Saturday gave up its bases in Jabal al-Zawiya, a collection of mountain villages that had been under the control of the pro-American warlord Jamal Maarouf since 2012. A video posted on YouTube showed Jabhat al-Nusra fighters unearthing stockpiles of weaponry at Maaroufs headquarters in his home town of Deir Sunbul.....

Obola is such a terrible leader that I am rooting for Assad in Syria. I despise Assad, but I suspect anything that emerges with Obola’s support will be even worse.
I’m almost certain that this was a set up to get US weapons to al Queda (with Obama’s consent)
But considering that these troops were trained by Obama’s army, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the battle took place while “our” rebels were celebrating “transgender day.”
And this story comes from the Washington Post?!?!?
Wow, reporting negative news about their master? How did this story slip by the editor?
We've always been at war with Eastasia.
Why do I get the feeling its all part of Obama’s plan. Caliphate anyone?
Well, just another bullet point in the long-term plan of Obama and his Muslim Brotherhood associates in the White House and elsewhere sprinkled throughout the Obama regime.
It wouldn’t surprise me that the DOD asked to review their Affirmative Action plan before weapons and training would be provided.
Yet another in a long, long list of Obama’s failures. To determine the right course of action, watch this feckless bunch do exactly the opposite.
The lesson that should’ve been learned by now is that other people will not fight DC and globalist puppet master wars. (they’re certainly not the wars the rest of the US wants). The rebels are armed, trained, financed. Their leaders are made very wealthy to turn on their nations. They disrupt nations and take power in some cases. But they’re in it for themselves, not for anyone else’s agenda.
Let’s see, fight with Obama who has a record of abandoning allies for weekend golf or join the radicals where 21 virgins and slave girls await........ hmmmmm let me think....
Who expected anything else? Certainly not the Sultan in Washington.
The failure here is the failure to recognize that this failure, while an American failure is NOT a failure of Obama. Things are going quite well for the Sultan. He is a Moslem in charge of the greatest Infidel nation and is acting accordingly and successfully so far.
The only people we should arm in the middle east is the Kurds...arm them to the hilt and tell the others to go cut bait!!!
The “Arab spring” was/is a State Department/CIA operation seeking to topple the governments of Egypt, Libya, and Syria. In Egypt the Muslim Brotherhood was installed and only massive protests supporting the Egyptian military unseated the islamist Muslim Brotherhood. In Libya there are various islamist factions are fighting for control of the ruined country. Syria is still in play.
Gen. Patreaus has since at least 2012 been coordinating shipment of arms supplied by Qatar and Saudi Arabia through Turkey to “good” Syrian rebels as well as providing US training to those rebels.
capturing significant quantities of weaponry
You watch yourself! Didn’t I hear you saying “Down with Big Brother”, in your sleep?
