"is this pronounced coke or kotch?"

I've heard it both ways, so I don't really know with any degree of certainty!

I had a customer whose name was Koch and he pronounced it Cook.

I come from a limb of the Koch tree and over the decades I have heard it both ways. Apparently pronunciation can be anyway one prefers. Pronounced as “Kotch” reminds me of a Russian family version. Pronounced as ‘Coke’ makes me think of German roots which even some Russian migrates preferred using. My Lutheran confirmation pastor preferred the ‘coke’ sound but deferred to my parents ‘kotch’ pronunciation.
