Google has been the target of repeated anti-trust scrutiny in Europe over the last decade.
Todays Financial Times is reporting that the European parliament is on the verge of taking even more drastic steps, preparing a plan that would call for the breakup of the search giant, specifically the unbundling [of] search engines from other commercial services. [ ]
When asked by Financial Times why a drastic measure like a breakup was necessary, Ramon Tremosa, a Spanish member of the EU parliment who sponsored the motion, said the commission could not ask the secret of [Googles] algorithm and was seeking other remedies to curb its power.

Perhaps one should ask the EU....if you unbundle the commercial side from the search engine side....how does the search engine side pay for it’s services/options? I don’t see how you’d avoid paying a fee every time you did a search of say....two cents....in order to pay for a search.
What amazes me about the EC (European Council, the controlling arm or legislative controller of the EU)....is they sit around and try to think of the top hundred gimmicks without any value for the common European citizen, and then prioritize them near the top.

cute!
I think my temptation would be to ask just why in the minds of certain eu Parliament members google power is a problem?
Google should make sure the first hit from every EU search is an article about “hamburgers”.
Good! I hate google! Just a spy agency!
Ever try competition?
Perhaps they could consider “un bundling” EU taxation, environmental regulations, & immigration policy from paying the rent & salaries in Brussels?
This is why the European Union will fail. Over bloated and overreaching. Micro managers from hell.
Europe needs celebrate muzzies raping their children and women......
They just want google to make it rain money in Europe, the way they do elsewhere.
I can't wait to see the headline, "Google has a plan to break up the EU."
The truth is, they attack Google because it is successful, and American, and they resent it for both reasons.
No sympathy here for Google...imo they’ve fritzed up just about everything that the internet was unique, time saving, efficient, fun about.
Even a simple thing like email has become a goat screw.
So it’s okay for the EU to go after their source code simply because they’ve “fritzed everything up” according to personal opinion?
The EU goes after every US tech company in the same manner. Think about that.
In the EU’s social market economy, government controls and defines competition.
