Big business group considers formally opposing Obamacare

The Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of 200 leading U.S. companies, is weighing formally opposing Obamacare, which it had previously supported.

The association cited recent lawsuits by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against company health policies as the reason for the shift.

"The fact that the EEOC sued is shocking to our members," said Maria Ghazal, the group's vice president, told Reuters on Saturday. "They don't understand why a plan in compliance with the ACA is the target of a lawsuit. This is a major issue to our members."

Roundtable members are scheduled to meet in private with President Obama on Tuesday to discuss their objections.

The association has objected to EEOC lawsuits directed at company "wellness programs" — policies that are aimed at reducing employer-sponsored medical insurance costs by promoting healthier lifestyles, such as avoiding smoking or exercising regularly. Obamacare allows companies to reward employees who participate and penalize those who don't.

This would be a huge step forward toward repealing this horrible law that only Democrats were capable of passing.

A little late. They’ll probably settle for tax breaks over repeal. Let them rot.

This group has sucked at the teat of government for years. They aided and abetted Ovama for years and are now reaping their just desserts. Screw ‘em.

The cynical “I’ve seen too much NY wheeling and dealing” side of me reads this and wonders if they are fishing for bribes and kickbacks.

Our CEO/business executive class—from insurance companies on out—was all too willing to sell the country down the river for a tactically favorable deal for their business.

That says a lot about how our country’s character has fallen.

If you can pass a law that is so convoluted and complex that no citizen can understand it, you can make all citizens criminals wih the stroke of a pen.

Time to heat up the tar and cut more rails.

WAY too late. This national socialist scheme has already been ripped out of the bag by Obama and the Democrats.

Where were these fools five years ago? Asleep at the switch? Living high on the hog? Eating peeled grapes in their pleasure domes?

So the application here is that ADA trumps all.

Overweight? Company penalizes you under a “wellness” program? Get a doc to diagnose you with an ailment then file suit for discrimination.

What we’re seeing here is the natural, predictable, inevitable result of Progressive policies that conflict with one another.

If I were a cynical man (which, fortunately, I am), I'd say that they're not serious at all in actually opposing Obamacare. This is likely just a shakedown tactic to get the feds to back off the regulatory dogs and cough up some "incentives".

At which point, this group will get the ACA religion and talk about how, after further reflection, they should never have questioned its beneficence.
