Mystery ballots in Maine state Senate race bring call for investigation

Democrats question how 21 more votes from Long Island, all for the Republican, turned up in the very close District 25 recount.

Maine Democratic Party is calling for investigation into ballot count discrepancies on Long Island The party’s claim involves 21 ballots from the island town that appeared on Nov. 18, when the Secretary of State’s Office conducted recount in the race between Republican Cathy Manchester of Gray and Democrat Cathy Breen of Falmouth. The ballots were not tabulated by Long Island officials on election night Nov. 4, and all 21 of them were cast for Manchester, according to written statement Tuesday from Secretary of State Matt Dunlap.

The 21 ballots, combined with ballots from other towns that had been missing or were changed in the recount, were enough to reverse the results of the election and give Manchester an 11-vote victory over Breen, 10,927 to 10,916. The unofficial election night results, before the recount, showed Breen beating Manchester by 32 votes, 10,930 to 10,898.

The Maine Democratic Party did not accept the results of the recount, which means the Maine Senate will create a special committee to review the recount and recommend a winner to the full Senate. Republicans will control the Senate when it is sworn in Dec. 3 and will hold four of the seven seats on the committee, which has broad discretion to make a recommendation as it evaluates the recount results.

Kate Knox, a Maine Democratic Party attorney, hopes the Senate committee investigates the Long Island ballots before making its recommendation. Specifically, she wants the committee to order a new recount and subpoena the Long Island town clerk to explain why the official tally on a sealed box of ballots, as well as a voter manifest, differed from the number of ballots inside the box.

There’s no voter fraud!
Democrats tell us so...

of course, anyone want to lay odds on which party these mystery ballots are marked for?

No one would take that bet, I’m sure.

We are learning how to run a recount... The Dems taught us well. The 21 votes were probably found in a freezer where venison is kept...! LOL

Would they be as enthusiastic about it if the votes were for the other candidate? I think not. Now I don’t know if there was any voter fraud involved or not,but those who say there is had better be consistent in this point,or their opinion is generally worthless. They best show some proof too. It’s possible that there WAS voter fraud involved & that might be the only reason the Democrat candidate came as close as they did.

I am sure demonic-rat staffers simply did not count those 32 two votes for the Republican during the original count. Thus the discrepancy on the recount.

The real question is if the republicans were able to take a page out of the rat playbook and win by fraud, or if the rats in long Island tried to disenfranchise 21 republican voters and the scheme was foiled by the recount.

Democrats have a right to be upset.

They know darn well they had those ballots hidden away and locked up so they couldn’t be counted and now suddenly they appear again.

Its just not right.....

What would keep a democrat from filling in a bunch of Republican ballots and claiming voter fraud thereby calling the whole election into question?

The question is why were 21 R votes “lost”?

I favor the rats trying to disenfranchise 21 GOP voters and getting caught by the recount. GOP still needed to pick up 12+ other votes to win. However, by all means, the GOP should drag out all the left’s normal “let every vote count” lines and use their Senate majority to enforce this result. That’s the way the rats always do it.

And ideally the GOP should respond to rat whining over this by enacting strong voter id and ballot security legislation, to minimize any future risks for voter fraud. And advertise the legislation as a response to rat concerns nationally. Never let a crisis go to waste... Maybe the voters will reward them with the 8 more seats they need to control their House as well.

It sounds as though the votes cast do not jibe with the registrar’s tally (or clerk’s). There might be an explanation of absentee or provisional but all 21 going one way. Something is odd.

Something is odd.

Well yes, the GOP is gaining in a recount. That is quite odd. When I went to bed election night, IIRC, there were still 17 House and 2 senate seats to be called. Landreau and 2 LA House seats went to runoff elections, which the GOP should sweep this weekend if the crooks (and one of the rat candidates is a convicted felon) can't cheat enough. Two House races were non-partisan close races: 2 rats and 2 GOP fighting. So there really were 12 too close to call GOP v. Rat races to be decided. Those narrowly then ahead were split 6-6 or 7-5, I forget. Currently the only sure GOP win of those 12 is the AK Senate seat. McSally is ahead slightly at the final initial count in AZ-2, but that's going to recount and they're trying to let back in a slew of thrown out provisional ballots. The rest of the GOP leads, including some over 3k votes, vanished. Similar tales exist for many election cycles. Obama had multiple whole precincts go 100% for him. Maybe it isn't as lopsided in state races or in all states - some freeper probably knows - but at the federal level late vote counts and recount changes strongly trend democratic whereas statistically it should be a coin toss. The rats never look their gift horses in the mouth and the GOPe is too scared those mouths aren't connected to necks to look either. So in this case you double check the arithmetic, ask simple questions to which the answers are already known, mutter polite phrases like "count every vote" and "no election is perfect" and ratify the fait accomplit. The rats will fire a few of their fixers as substandard and life will go on.

Its glossed over but it seems to me 12 Houses sweats were too close to call and the RATS eventually got them. My opinion is due to the high GOP margin in the House these seats were written off too easily while CORNERED RATS made the best of a bad election and grabbed through fraud what they could.

We need a nice long look back at this GOP surrender
