Kathleen Kane won't defend NRA-backed Pa. law on firearm rules

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane is leaving it to the governor's office to defend a lawsuit challenging a National Rifle Association-backed law that was designed to dismantle illegal municipal firearms ordinances, officials said Friday.

A spokesman for Gov. Tom Corbett said the governor's legal office will defend the law against the challenge led by Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Lancaster. Kane's office sent word earlier in the week that she would not take the case.

Corbett, a Republican who opposes new forms of gun control, signed the law last month. The law widens the ability of the NRA or gun owners to successfully sue over municipal firearms ordinances.

"We can find no legitimate reason for the attorney general to decline to defend the commonwealth in this case," said Corbett's spokesman, Jay Pagni.

Is the AG an elected position, or can Corbett fire her?

Elected. She’s up in 2016. Gov. Corbett was fired in November.

Kathleen Kane doesn't need a legitimate reason to refuse to do her job. She's a liberal democrat, and striking a balance between corruption and neglecting her job is traditional for liberals. To her credit, she's one of the extremely rare liberals who is not as shockingly ugly on the outside as she is inside.

See? This is the lawlessness of the Democrat party. Obama and Holder refuse to enforce immigration law, they refuse to enforce DOMA, they even refuse to enforce Obamacare with the waivers and postponements, etc.

Holder ignores Supreme Court rulings, the IRS won’t turn over documents, etc.

Utter lawlessness spews forth from Democrats.

We had a similar thing in NC this year.

When the Fed court struck down our no-gay-marriage law, the elected Dem attorney general refused to appeal.

What happened next is, Repub state Senate leader Phil Berger and state House leader Thom Tillis took steps to file an appeal in court.

Too early yet for any rulings on standing, etc.

Tyranny of the Media-Government complex. The leftists in power are able to do all sorts of nastly stuff, because the old media will not call them on it, and in fact cheers them on.

The article does not mention it, but the law passed with more than 2 to 1 majorities in both houses.

Silly Demo grandstanding. The law wiped out local government gun ordinances. Pennsylvania has one law throughout the Commonwealth.
The bill approved by the legislature and signed by Corbett lets individuals and groups sue all government-infringement efforts and collect.
There’s no wiggle-room for municipals to support the infringement laws; the laws are gone!
