The photo above isn't from the archives. It was taken this week in Oklahoma City, where the price of regular gas has fallen under $2 a gallon. The last time that happened anywhere in the U.S. was in July 2010.
The OnCue filling station is the first in the country to drop its price below the $2/gallon threshold.
While $1.99 is definitely an anomaly even in Oklahoma (Gasbuddy.com tells us the average for the state is $2.47), anyone who has filled up anytime in the past several weeks is aware of a pleasantly precipitous drop in pump prices. And fuel prices got much of the credit for putting more Thanksgiving travelers on the road (and in the air) than at any time since before the start of the Great Recession.

Not in California....
Encore! Bring it!
Still too high, but I’m sure President Zero thinks otherwise.
$2.32 here in Denton.
Paid $2.26 today in North Mississippi
So long sad times!
Go 'long bad times!
We are rid of you at last
Howdy, gay times!
Cloudy gray times
You are now a thing
Of the past, cause:
Chorus:
Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
Let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again
Altogether shout it now!
There's no one who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again
Your cares and troubles are gone;
There'll be no more from now on
Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
Let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again.
$2.55 outside of Cleveland, OH. Having paid as much as $3.75 over the past few years, I can live with this.
This is the beginning of a downturn in the economy. The gas and oil industry is the only major manufacturing portion of the economy, and those supporting it, sustaining the current economy. They’re down sizing now along with all those affiliated with it. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Filled up at an Arco (especially cheap) on central coast California, and it was $2.75 for regular unleaded, last night, 9 pm, PST.
Happiest time of the year
With Christmas almost here
Theres something magic in the air
You feel it everywhere
Its the prettiest time of the year
It wont stop snowing here
The neighbors homes twinkle in the night
What a gorgeous sight
But the thing that makes Christmas Christmas to me
Is right in this room its my family
May all of you have a Merry Christmas
Its the happiest time of the year
The most magical time of the year
I hold this time so dear
To see a season through a childs eyes
Their wonder and surprise
But the thing that makes Christmas Christmas to me
Is right in this room its my family
May all of you have a Merry Christmas
Its the happiest time
The most wonderful time
Its the happiest time of the year
$1.87 when Obummer first took office.
Yes, please.
I thought I’d never see $1.87 gas return again in my lifetime.
Hallejujah for Deflation!
You know....I see this all the time on FB and here at FR....but to me...it's intellectually dishonest. Do we forget that under Bush it was $4?...and that for most of his second term it was above $2? The only reason it fell to $1.87 was because of an economic collapse.
The big story in all of this should be: Will there be a repeat following THIS fall in gas prices....?
Yup.
Not in NY State either. I live in Central NY, and regular gas is about $3.17 a gallon.
Are we sure we want to draw a conclusion on that data?

Your gas tax is 68.3 cents per gallon. Your highways should be lined of silver, unfortunately I believe that is reserved for your politicians pockets.
