Beat me to it.. This is a local story for me, and I’ve been following closely. It’s absurd that they should take death off the table. This was clearly premeditated.

Let the Fed’s make their case and then charge them under the state murder laws with a death sentence option. Works in reverse when the fed’s charge a civil rights case after a state dismissal...they are separate jurisdictions so double jeeopardy is not in question.

Well that's your problem right there, that one word in the sentence could! More likely they will go to prison for a few years treated like heroes by their fellows for killing a cop. put teeth in the death penalty, make it horrendous and most importantly USE IT!

The degree of penalty is less important in criminology than the degree of certitude in catching the criminal. Crime rates have gone down because most career crooks are now in prison for a long time.
That’s worked really well as a deterrent to murder hasn’t it. You and I will never agree on the death penalty, you want to warehouse murderers, I want to send them out of this earth. And Stop equating me to a dictator or conquering king because I share a view with many millions of Americans that you don’t, I don’t get insulting about your particular views, but I guess my moral horse ain’t as high as yours.
Why is this being tried in federal court? Did the kidnapping ever cross the state line, or is something else going on?
And if ever there were a death penalty case... this is.
Kidnapping is a federal crime. There is a presumption that state lines have been crossed, even if they haven't.
