I did not see that in the article.

Granted that in California it actually happens, like, just barely this side of never.

There ought to be some manner in which one could set up an ATM card account to accept a withdrawal and still raise a silent “help” alert — as by using an alternate PIN.

This kind of evil points out that there are situations in which even being personally armed may not avail. If a gang is sent for you, there may be next to nothing you can do.

Suspects in Va. police officer killing will not face death penalty

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Four gang members who were charged with the murder of a reserve
Virginia police officer, Kevin Quick, will not be facing the death penalty, federal
prosecutors told reporters Friday.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has taken the death penalty off the table, but
the co-defendants will face the possibility of life in prison for their alleged
role in killing Quick, 45. He was reported missing on Feb. 1 and his body was found
several days later.
