I’ve read that Zebra mussels are causing major problems in the Great Lakes. On the other hand while there was a big flap in the mid Atlantic region about “Frankenfish” (snakeheads?), there has not been much in the news about them recently.

Yeah, it’s hard to believe a few don’t make it across even without a tsunami.

Funny how the very same alarmists regarding invasive species are the ones that welcome an invasion from the other side of our southern border.

Two nights ago we watched a documentary about the return of beaver to much of North America. They prevent erosion, raise the water table and are just the environmental bee’s knees.

Last night we watched some stuff about wil South America. Seems like beaver were imported decades ago to Tierra del Fuego and are causing environmental havoc.

The problem is that the damages they cited were just the flip side of the benefits they’re creating in N. America.

Apparently a native species can be only good for the environment and an imported one only bad. Didn’t strike me as particularly scientific to look at it that way.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Gamera the giant turtle, as long as he stays on the west coast.

Gamera is really neat
