Yes. That is the traditional method and works well when your fraternity stays inside the “system” and is 50 - 150 years old.

I am speaking of the alternative: starting from scratch without alumni, University, or alumni support.

If you decide to step away from the traditional “system” - which I have advocated for - you are going to be largely on your own.

This was our situation when we stepped away from the University back in my day. We made it work, but it takes much more dedication, time, and work than most frats can support.

I may have mis-read what you wrote, but I disagree that any fraternity is a good bet for an investor/bank/&c. At the end of the day it’s a non-profitable liability that, at any moment, could be accused of gang rape and shut down for a complete loss.

The frats should come together, pool their resources, and hire some bloodthirsty lawyers.

The frats probably have some bloodthirsty lawyers among their alumni ...

I was saying an established ‘house corp’ (not the actives/students that are collectively the tenants) can borrow against the value of the house the house corp owns.

The house corp has valuable assets, and a revenue stream, and is legally unaffiliated with the actives/tenants.

Here is a thought — the Greeks should get together and encourage those who are already out of school to stop giving to the university. No money, no “in kind” support no ticket purchases (at extorted prices) no response to a “rally around the flag of the old school” call.

When the university decides to be fair and gets rid of the grievance studies clowns then the Greeks and the rest of the alumni community should deliberate about supporting the school.

An old Kappa Sig.

I hope the rich frat brother alumni act accordingly.

So...if I wrote a fake but accurate story about gang rape at a UVA faculty party, would they suspend the faculty?

So sororities will be banned too?

Title 9 is being used to force colleges to treat rape reported on campus under rules other than those handled by police.
Under title 9 proceedings, a boy accused of rape has no right to legal counsel, no right to question the accused, and the decisions against him are by preponderance of evidence (51% suspicion) versus shadow of a doubt of guilt. A girl can have her rape accusations turned down by the police as likely consensual and then turn it over to a university tribunal that kicks him out of school, bans him from campus and forfeits his tuition paid and scholarships.

Yes. You are right. Acquiring the house is difficult, however, but not impossible.

“My salvation was that I distinctly failed, and after maturation got a second chance. I hate to think what my life would have been if I just barely passed the course work, got the degree, and thus never got the second chance.”

Same here; I haven’t been back to school in almost a decade and I intend to go when I can afford it. I’m not getting myself into debt and having problems concentrating because of worries about how to pay off my loans.

In my day, my second chance was possible because there was no tuition charge at the excellent state engineering school.

However, its excellence was based on the idea that the courses were rather easy to get into, but so tough that at least half of the freshmen really did not have the brains or grit to make it through to the 150 semester hours (30 more than for liberal arts/business degrees) for the B. S. Eng.

I don't know if there are any such state schools now. If you can find one, move to that state, establish residency, and get in ASAP. The value of an aged bachelor graduate drops off very rapidly after mid-20s. Part of it is simply a practical age discrimination that would be extremely difficult to prove; and even if you could, you would have another mark against you as being contentious.

IN that case I’ll fund my own independent study and request work packages from a specialist. It’ll save me from the hassle of crazy liberals and it’ll also provide me with more respect and with LinkedIn finding a specialist won’t be hard.

I am sure that I’ll earn a degree a lot quicker and avoid the drama of dealing with the asinine protests on campuses around teh country. I’ll go as a Research Fellow and enjoy the independence on campus.

Now that is an option that did not exist, when after flunking out of Syracuse, in 1960 I was a bread route extra man, married with two children and another on the way. What got me back into college was begging a local high school math teacher for a textbook on calculus and teaching myself analytic geometry, differential calculus, and integral calculus, and showing the staff of the engineering school that I was sincere and determined enough to give another break.

I'm glad, very glad, that 54 years later, you can kind of roll your own degree with a laptop or smartphone, and make a new life.

Too bad yutes like Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown, or the agitators feeding on the grievance industry somehow cannot even conceive of another way out of a dead-end life beside leeching on others.

What a pity that our media can't raise the bar a bit on hopeful truth-telling stories like yours, or mine, or those of thousands of Armed Forces recruits who have volunteered to learn how to respond to authority, and qualify for help in getting a college education after their discharge.

Liberals think they’re bastions of white male privilege and must be destroyed at any cost.

Black fraternities and sororities who exclude whites are exempt, of course.

Thanks; I’m glad too mainly since the fees for the full university package are astounding and I wish the schooling was worth the price. I mean, the stuff I hear about the professors and the classes that have to be taken to get a degree, unreal and a total ripoff. I thought about it and realize that I can get a certificate in stuff like medical terminology and a business course and then it’ll show on my resume what anyone needs to know, about what I know. Then with my connections and experience I’ll have a fully well rounded resume that will end up impressing everyone. Once I discovered trade certificate training programs, college has been put on the back burner, at least to me.

Yeah well, we live in a time when we have all the choices pointed out to us, but for some reason, the truth is ignored. I sincerely think that the ghetto underclass will be the first to line up to take the mark of Antichrist if the End Times comes in our lifetime.
