Forget asking for school permission, for anything. This is a civil rights issue. The right of free association. These groups of men have the right to do anything lawful. Just don’t ask for anyones money, resources, or approval.
If they have to secure a house/facilities off-campus, then just do it.
Why go to college? You can attend on-line, test-out, go to seminars, join the armed forces, etc.
The admins at most, if not all, of the Universities are as anti-fraternal as any radical feminist.
College is not right for everyone, and neither is the armed forces.
-—Personal choice and personal responsibility-—
Leftist way of getting what they want, lie, and when caught continue the path.
I’m not advocating the military for everyone, especially now. But there are many alternatives out there. I almost completely tested out for my degree, so it cost me pennies compared to what most people pay. If an individual is not suited or scholastically geared towards college, apprenticeships, trade schools, sales classes and a million other things will work. Most Fortune 1000 firms have salespeople who make more than the CEO, for instance.
“The frats should come together, pool their resources, and hire some bloodthirsty lawyers.”
I would imagine that they meet monthly via their inter-fraternal council (IFC). I know I would be bringing it up if I were my frat’s rep.

Yes. In the State of GA you can apprentice your Law degree and be recognized by the Bar. You don’t have to go to Law School. Most people are unaware of this.
That used to be true in Iowa, not sure if it still is. Of course, that’s how young Abe Lincoln and many others did it.
The fraternities at UVA are off Grounds, but they seek University recognition and approval though the IFC and other relationships with the administration. They have ceded to the administration a certain amount of authority through this official recognition process.

When I was at a major Uni - way back when - my fraternity did this because of the hostile attitude of the Uni. It blew their minds that they could no longer control us; really messed with their minds. A large portion of fraternities, however, are located on Uni property or even have Uni-supplied housing. And refuse to give that up.
(Of course, do you know how hard it is for 75-100 college-aged men to get a mortgage on a $400k house? Yeah. We did it, but we were a unique group.)
They banned sorority gatherings because of the “rape culture”.
This proves that this episode was just a witch hunt.
Well, all those rich boys are rapists anyway. Even if they didn’t rape they’re still rapists because all men are rapists.

They had already paid for Christmas formals and the President canceled them.
Then all the fraternities have to do is ignore the university, and take it up with their national/general fraternity, which probably requires university affiliation. If the national organizations don’t accept them, then they should ditch the national fraternity as well, and proceed as their own corporation/enterprise.
Men do not need these approvals to operate as a group, but the national fraternities cease to hold any reason to exist if the chapters don’t accept their governance. Insurance policies may for an independent chapter may be a bit more expensive though.
Many fraternities have corporations that own the housing. These house corporations are controlled by alumni, and collect rent from the active members.
If I was a banker, this steady rent and strong collateral would make for a good case for a loan. The problem is with starting a new fraternity under these conditions, where the rent history is nil.
Bye bye frat alum donations
they need to take away their guns while they are at it.
Idiots.
Of course, the Greek system is one of the few remaining private spaces on campus, rare refuges from the oppressive weight of the college political culture. They must therefore be destroyed, regardless of the gender they serve.
