There may be no exact translation for humbug in Chinese, but in recent days, as popular fervor for the trappings of Western-style Christmas enveloped this officially atheist nation, the defenders of traditional Chinese culture have fought back with Scrooge-like zeal.
On Wednesday, university students in the central province of Hunan held an anti-Christmas pageant with banners declaring Chinese should not celebrate foreign festivals. Education officials in the coastal city of Wenzhou issued a decree banning the celebration of Christmas-themed events at schools.
Students at a university in northwestern China were forced to endure three hours of propaganda films, including one glorifying Confucius, the state news media said. Faculty members reportedly stood at the doors, making sure no one tried to sneak off to partake in illicit Christmas cheer.

What are the Chinese supposed to do? They make and see all the stuff that is shipped here.
Yep, that Jesus is an ‘illegal’ immigrant into China.
Got to guard that border.
The most destructive foreign intrusion into China from the West has been Marxism-Leninism.
God is an illegal alien?
Ho K...
Yeah, Jesus is a foreigner. Is that really so horrible, you lousy chicomms?
Merry Christmas, Mao-hounds!
I guess this means that i should cancel my reservations at the local Chinese Restaurant’s Chinese New Year’s celebration.
Fa ra ra ra
LOL We ate Chinese dinner today. There are only two of us on Christmas Day; sibs, parents, and siblets on Saturday, so to the restaurant we went. VERY busy place.
And we should stop using Chinese fire works on the 4th of July, and not eat Ramen noodles, chow mein, chop sui, or any other Chinese cuisine.
It’s smiling at us!

In America, Christmas festivals have been banned at universities for decades. That should be news, since America is a Christian nation.
On the other hand, it should not be news for China to ban Christmas festivals at ITS universities, since Christmas is a foreign religion in China.
Boy, is the MSM political propaganda.

ten percent of Chinese are Christians and their influence, unlike in the past, is mainly among the educated middle class. They worship in house churches, which is illegal, and recently, many churches outside the gov’t run church have been persecuted in various ways.
If they celebrate “christmas”, it opens a question in the minds of those who don’t know the story, and Christians have a chance to evangelize.
Which is why the western atheists are so eager to get rid of Christmas and push the winter holiday type meme.
The first recorded Christian mission to China was led by the Syriac monk known in Chinese as Alopen. Alopen’s mission arrived in the Chinese capital Chang’an in 635, during the reign of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty. Taizong extended official tolerance to the mission and invited the Christians to translate their sacred works for the imperial library. This tolerance was followed by many of Taizong’s successors, allowing the Church of the East to thrive in China for over 200 years.
