More than a dozen presidents of Illinois community colleges will be heading to Cuba in February to learn about the country's education system.
The new president of Black Hawk College in western Illinois will be among them. Bettie Truitt said she will explore possible exchange opportunities for students at Black Hawk, located in Moline.
John Avendano, president of Kankakee Community College, won't be making the trip, citing a scheduling conflict.
Truitt says the trip was planned before President Barack Obama's announcement this month that the U.S. and Cuba will begin taking steps to restore full diplomatic relations.
Altogether, 14 Illinois community college presidents will take part in the Feb. 15-22 trip sponsored by Illinois Community College Board.
The (Moline) Dispatch reported the group will visit traditional schools, art schools and a medical school.
They'll also attend lectures on culture and teaching and tour Havana.
And WHO EXACTLY pays for this trip?
Go to South Korea to learn about a successful education system you drooling lefties.
Gonna get some of those Cuban cigars before they’re all gone.
I guess they are looking for baseball players to staff their teams. Junior College sports is getting to be big business!
Illinois residents “only” have $25,000 per person state debt.
So no problema for a nice winter jaunt to the sunny climes of Cuber for these junior domos.....
Must be one of those famous college official sex party getaways..... I understand those trips to Bangkok, et al are very popular with the poofter Professors.
Let's be real -- Cuba won't ever send a lot of Cuban college students to the US -- they won't come back! But if they're talking about sending Illinois college students to Cuba ... this is gonna be worth a mountain of popcorn to watch!
A little “sex tourism”?
Wonder what it is that liberals think Cuba is utopia it’s the last place I would live no matter what gov they had the place sucks.
Education is too important to be left to educators.
They have proven their total incompetence at every turn. As well as their limitless greed and financial irregularities.
