It’s one of the best-known lines of any English-language poet – Robert Burns’ reflection on the upper-class church lady who doesn’t realize there’s a louse crawling around on her bonnet. “O wad some Pow’r the giftie gie us, To see oursels as ithers see us!”
I had an opportunity to see how others see us while vacationing in Italy when news broke of the grand jury’s decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson for killing teenager Michael Brown. Across Europe, the news coverage was nonstop. And it wasn’t pretty.
For most Europeans, the failure of the grand jury to indict, and resulting riots in Ferguson and other cities, was just further proof that a country that brags of its human rights record has itself a serious, continuing problem with racism. On German television, a special program on racism in America opened with the chilling observation: “For half a century, the land of the free has been trying to overcome racism and discrimination – with doubtful results.”
Of course, nobody enjoyed rubbing our nose in it more than Russia. Russia’s foreign ministry, which dubbed the unrest a “color revolution,” cited the riots as evidence of “systematic shortcomings of American democracy.”
It’s uncomfortable to hear such criticism, especially from nations that are hardly paragons of virtue. Yet, they are right! We do have a lingering problem with racism in this country.
We might as well admit it, and we’d better start dealing with it. We saw it in Los Angeles with Rodney King. We saw it in Sanford, Fla., with Trayvon Martin. We saw it in Ferguson with Michael Brown. And now we see it, once again, on Staten Island, with Eric Garner. Add to these cases that no doubt go unreported every day nationwide....

After the police beat Kelly Thomas to a pulp (literally) it wasn’t possible to tell just what race Kelly Thomas was. Oh, wait...he was white. Racism, I tell you.
Oh trust me NOBODY on the left wants an honest discussion of Race.
They want to lecture and preen and posture.
I’m in a mixed marriage. Now whenever any subject comes up, whether it’s taking out the garbage, deciding what movie to see or debating if the sky is blue, my wife and I inevitably end up screaming “RACISM!” At the conclusion of each discussion.
It has brought us closer together, when we are not laughing ourselves silly.
That is the level of credibility that obama and his minions have brought to the debate.
Exactly.
If we can talk honestly about race, B Obama, A Sharpton Etc. Owe the American people an oppology.
Only if the discussion includes the traditional race hustlers, Sharpton, Jackson, Rangel, Farrakhan, and company.

You mean there are actually news rags that pay Bill Press, that Leftist has-been, to write for them? Oh well, that’s New Mexico, which is a lot like Old Mexico.
If you really want to confront issue of racism honestly then stop insisting that only white people can be racist.
Just type ‘Bill Press controversy’ into a Google search, and you’ll find out what a lovely liberal and tolerant person he really is.

I stopped reading after I saw “Bill Press”..
Europeans, generally speaking, are lefties - socialists and communists. They seek out reasons to put down the USA. It doesn’t matter that the USA saved their butts and rebuilt their nations to be a major competitor of own economic base. They continually bite the hand that has fed them for many, many years.
As Momma always told me, “consider the source.”
Can we honestly address how many blacks are racist?

Just say “we need to talk about rampant black crime, the unspoken elephant in the room”
... that’ll shut down the discussion every time!
Anyone who commences their argument with “what other nations must be thinking about us” is a liberal jerk who should be dismissed out of hand.
Taking lessons in social morality from Germany is always a real hoot.
It’s a subscription only article, at least on my computer.
All I’ll say is that “white privilege” is PC code for “get whitey!”
