After defeating a rebellion by 25 conservative Republicans this week, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday declared himself the most anti-establishment Speaker in history.
During my years here when I voted, I had the eighth-most conservative voting record in the Congress, and it does pain me to be described as spineless or a squish, Boehner told reporters. But what pains me the most is when they describe me as the establishment. Im the most anti-establishment Speaker weve ever had.
"Who was the guy who got rid of earmarks? Me. Who's the guy who believes in regular order? Me," Boehner continued. "Who believes in allowing more members to participate in the process from both sides of the aisle? Me."
Boehner won his third term as Speaker on Tuesday, but with more defections from his own party than any Speaker in modern history. He chalked up the conservative opposition to widespread anger at Washington.
"The American people are very frustrated. They are frustrated in a struggling economy, Boehner said. This frustration that's out there, they need to take it out on somebody. They take it out on the president; they take it out on me. It comes with the territory.
We are truly blessed.
He’s a regular legend in his own mind.
Isn’t he also “extremely conservative” or something like that? Or was that some other guy?
he is the establishment
Boehner is an idiot.
He needs a permament BS Meter attached to him......
The cryin Cheeto a liar.
He must have been drinking the good stuff when he said that.
Some people say the funniest things.
Those who live in the ivory tower rarely realize they do.
It is our job to elect the best people we can but they are still politicians and are motivated politically. Politicians are generally the wrong people to run things, but that's often all we have. The most important thing We the People can do is this:
Make it politically profitable for the wrong guy to do the right thing and make it politically unprofitable for ANY politician to do the wrong thing by THROWING THE BUM OUT.
His position respective to the establishment is not the argument. The argument is he usurped the power of representative Government from the people and reserved it to himself. He is a tyrant dictator and un-American. the fact that he would punish the people through their representatives, denying them representation is unacceptable. He should be tarred , feathered, and run out of town by pitchforks.
Boner is way deep into the Hopium....
~hiccup~ have another drink bonehead! We ain’t buyin your weepy bs!
He sounds just like 0bama. Trying to explain away his unpopularity as being just that the people are frustrated and need to “take it out on someone”.
And neither one of them seems to understand that the election was one way the frustrated people tried to communicate.
Boehner, let’s see your contract with America. This guy is a clown.
“Who believes in allowing more members to participate in the process from both sides of the aisle?”
What he means is that he’ll ignore the Hastert rule to get what he wants. (The Hastert rule stated that before the speaker brought up any legislation for a vote, it had to have enough support to be passed by Republicans alone. At least that is what I think it was.)
Boehner: I should be considered a member of the Tea Party
