When we were young (if you're as old as I am) there were morally corrupt individuals for sure, but by far most of the adult world felt responsible for protecting children from them.

If the creepy man down the street made you feel uncomfortable, your mother wouldn't bring you to sit on the porch with him. She certainly wouldn't let him touch you. The movie theaters shielded you from adult sex/violence content. The teachers taught sex ed in the context of normal mammalian biology. Human sexual behavior was assumed to be oriented toward marriage and creating a family.

Now it's the so-called "authorities" --- teachers, premiers, governors, doctors --- who are the "creepy man down the street".
