Just one more reason for Northern Californians to break away and form the State of Jefferson.

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street; If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet . . . . .

Should 5% appear too small......be thankful I don’t take it all......yep, a 95% tax on the wealthy at that time in Britain.

And, of course, illegals will be exempt from this tax.

, a 95% tax on the wealthy at that time in Britain.

Not necessarily the wealthy, but on income. Old money was comparatively left alone. In 1963, taxable income over $400,000 was taxed at 91% in the U.S.

From the looks of things, there seems to be little anyone can do until the whole mess just collapses around his(& the rest of Californian’s)ears. By then,he will probably have a convenient excuse dreamed up.

Lessee, there’s 20 million registered cars in California. If each GPS unit costs just $100, that’s $2,000,000,000. (2 billion) in sales.
Some connected campaign donor is nicely positioned for the contract.
Let’s not forget the ticket in the mail when you hit 87mph to pass another car.
Oh yeah, and the auto insurance companies will love it. You were speeding, we’re not paying.
Not to mention the police state knowing where you were and when.
If they want to do this; remove the gasoline tax and replace it with a miles driven tax, it occurs to me the least expensive and least intrusive way to do this is a yearly odometer reading at one of the official smog stations that already exist.
But hey, that’s just common sense. Currently in short supply.

Governor Jerry Brown is studying the replacement of gas taxes with mileage fees.

Replacement, my hairy purple donkey. He is going add the mileage fees to the existing gas taxes.

For decades the Feds and CA too have been mandating higher and higher mpg numbers. Now that have gotten their wish, and it has bitten them, they want to add more fees.

Put gas tax money back into the roads instead of transit and there will be plenty.

The original State of Jefferson includes a lot of Southern Oregon. I would love to see it come back, but if we get too many Californians they will give us a sales tax, which we certainly don't need.
