SHAPIRO: Will Republicans Go The Way Of The Whigs?
Truth Revolt ^ | Jan. 29, 2015 | Ben Shapiro

In 1856, the Whig Party ran former president Millard Fillmore for president of the United States. Fillmore had last run in 1852; he'd been denied the nomination as the party fell apart over the issue of slavery.

In an attempt to bring the party back together that year, the party nominated General Winfield Scott, who promptly imploded in the general election against Democrat Franklin Pierce. "We are slain!" shouted Representative Lewis D. Campbell of Ohio. "The party is dead, dead, dead!" Free Soiler Charles Sumner wrote, "Now is the time for a new organization. Out of this chaos the party of freedom must arise."

I voted Constitution Party in 2012...they have a great platform but no national canidate and not much money. I just wish some viable national third party would arise because I do not believe the GOP can escape from the golden goose of the big money donars like your sheldon adelsons and koch brothers...

"The GOP is trying hard to accomplish this, alienating what should be their base to try to win a fictional middle that will never support them."

The middle isn't fictional and it will support some or even many conservative ideas. But RINOS fear the media and think it stands for the middle, whereas it is to the left of the middle. So RINOS never talk back to the media, but cower and cringe and do the media's bidding.

Will they???? What is this, Funny Friday? The espousing that two major parties still exists in the US/DC is a joke, and a bad one at that. The political party system is now nothing more than identical twins with different names and the US government has devolved into an us (the DC establishment) against them (the American people).

Core convictions matter. Bush 1 never believed in Reagans economics. Voodoo economics. You can see why he bought into the tax increases the demtards were pushing him to do. I don’t think he expected them to bludgeon him to death over doing what they wanted, though.

The number of Tea Party reps keeps growing. They will caucus together and grow even faster then.

It would be really interesting if they would caucus with the blue dog dems. That would cause quite a stir in both parties!

People have been asking this question for years. Answer: No. Modern divisions in the party are NOTHING compared to divisions in the Whig party over slavery. (Not mentioned: How the rats stayed united until 1860 by driving slavery opponents out of the party with Northern rats taking a “pro-choice” stance)

And the Whigs didn’t really go anywhere, nearly all Northern Whigs became Republicans and Republican policy was Northern Whig policy.

In our electoral system you’re gonna have 2 parties, no matter what they’re called. If in a fantasy scenario Republicans split, with conservatives forming a new party that supplants the GOP as the main center-right party, it would only be a matter of time before the Republicans/RINOs joined them, and voila same party with a new name. And meanwhile due to the vote splitting the rats will have huge supermajorites in Congress that they will use to rape Lady Liberty and beat her into a coma.

But hey, talking about nonsense like this more fun than reality.

Democrats are like muslims; there are very few real moderates among their ranks, but the republlicans have a bumper crop of them.

He could be true for the longer term but as of right now the “Whigs” are running the House AND the Senate.

The `Whigamores’ were Presbyterians opposed to a possible line of English Catholic kings starting with James II.
The name migrated over here and was applied to those who opposed a king-like democrat, Andrew Jackson.
Jackson started the practice of vetoing anything-and-everything he didn’t like that was proposed by Congress, although many argued he was violating Constitution delineation of powers between coequal branches of government. They really busted his balls.
But the Whigs imploded with Millard Fillmore, and were replaced by the Republicans in 1856.

Padre, if the GOP-e doesn’t have the stones to ride herd on a (very) pale imitation of A. Jackson, maybe we need to look into `Whigs: the Sequel’?

I think they will go the way of an honest NYT reporter.

Bonehead and McDorkell hold the last chance, and we all know they don’t have a single IQ point to share between them.

Add Bush as a presidential candidate, and we may as well load up for the sure to follow civil war.

Whigs to Republicans to “Freedom” Party. The GOP is dissolving and it will be hastened if Jeb is the nominee.

The Democratic Party has been taken over by rabid communists ... the Republican Party has morphed into the old Democratic Party ... and at the present time, conservatives are represented by ... no one!
