Stephen Fry calls G-d "stupid," reveals what he'd say if confronted and throws SO MUCH more shade

If Stephen Fry met God, he'd have some pretty scathing things to say. In an interview on RTÉ One's faith-based series The Meaning of Life, set to air on TV on Sunday, host Gay Byrne posed a theoretical question to the 57-year-old British actor and comedian, who is a staunch atheist. "Suppose it's all true, and you walk up to the pearly gates, and are confronted by God," he asked, as seen in a YouTube video posted this week, which has been viewed more than 1.4 million times. "What will Stephen Fry say to him, her, or it?" "I think I'd say, 'Bone cancer in children?'" Fry replied. "'What's that about'? How dare you. How dare you create a world in which there is such misery that is not our fault. It's not right. It's utterly, utterly evil. Why should I respect a capricious, mean-minded, stupid God who creates a world that is so full of injustice and pain?' That's what I would say." "And you think you're going to get in?" the host asked. "No," Fry said. "But I wouldn't want to. I wouldn't want to get in on his terms. They're wrong."

I always take my spiritual direction from atheist British comedians.

This isn’t really about pediatric bone cancer, is it, Steve?

Speaking of throwing shade, I suspect very few men who are not either pro athletes or Michael Moore are capable of throwing more than Stephen Fry.

(And am I the only one who finds that phrase annoying?)

Hey, no problem, Bro. We’re in agreement. Fantastic. See you in Heaven, if not before then.

Well except... it IS our fault, generally, though sometimes people are put through trials that entail afflictions that are not their specific fault, but this is to set these people up for a later victory.

Theologically what they are missing is the fall of mankind. Spiritually, a lot could be shared with them. Their assurance is bluff and buffalo and they know it in their heart of hearts.

Well, he’s going to get his chance and at that point, I think he’ll be pretty sobered and scared. They can talk big now, but then they will realize their stupidity, but it will be too late.

No. He got one bad review for the play “Cell Mates,” left a message on his phone answering machine that he was committing suicide and then took off for Bruges with a Zaget’s, leaving the entire cast stranded. It closed the show causing untold financial damage to a lot of people. The playwright, Simon Grey, categorized the whole thing in his memoir. A truly terrible thing to do.

And George Bernard Shaw was a vile Fabian socialist who had no respect for life. Makes me see Pygmalion and My Fair Lady (though I adore Audrey Hepburn) in a whole different light.

Reminds me of the song I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me - the guy has lofty ideas about himself as compared to "G-d"

Fry toured America and produced a really good travel show to explain America to the Brits. It was obvious he loved America and its a really fun show.

Rebelling against God isn't new, think Lucifer, nor that much of a shock today. It's just dumb. God is God and his ways and reasons aren't known to us.

I don’t commit idolatry.

A few points to ponder:

- It is only idolatry if the object is unworthy of worship.

- The referenced text does not appear to leave room for individual choice.

Worshipping anyone other than God alone is idolatry. This includes Jesus.

If Jesus is the Messiah - would he be worthy of worship?

No. Nowhere in the Hebrew Scriptures does it say that the messiah will be worshipped. He will be fully human and in no way divine.

And since Jesus did not fulfill any of the requirements he is not the messiah.
