A critic of mandatory child vaccinations made no apologies for her views in an appearance on Newsmax TV Tuesday, and said that public anger over the Disneyland measles outbreak should be directed at pharmaceutical companies and the federal government, not people like her.
"What's happening is people are freaking out about measles outbreaks," Louise Kuo Habakus said ina combative interview with "MidPoint" host Ed Berliner. "They're pointing the finger at unvaccinated children and non-vaccinated families, when really what needs to happen is people need to be pointing the finger at industry and at Congress."
Habakus, co-founder of a group called the Center for Personal Rights, objected to being labeled an "anti-vaxxer" "a stupid name," she said, that doesn't account for the real medical risks including allergic reactions, brain damage and even death that inoculations pose to some children.
"If you were allergic to penicillin, what would I call you? Anti-penicillin?" said Habakus.
"The issue comes down to parental choice," she said. "Parents need to have the right to decide what goes into their children's bodies."
"What parents know in looking at the literature, and looking at the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program and the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, they see that there is serious injury and death associated with vaccines," said Habakus.
Habakus argued that conventional wisdom understates the risks of getting shots for measles, mumps and Rubella and the like, and overstates their effectiveness.
She said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention keeps pushing vaccinations, however, "because they don't want people to lose confidence in the program," even though children have been harmed, and despite the fact that vaccines sometimes fail, and can transmit the very viruses they're intended to curb.

Yes....but “Freedom” loving FReepers will insist on vaccinations!
Of course, if their children are vaccinated, why should they worry unless they secretly doubt the efficacy of the vaccine? Their argument is idiotic and methinks they doth protest too much.
Again, people are believing what they read regardless of the corrupt source.
I think you are liar.
My opinion.
Besides looking up VAERS (Vaccine Event Reporting System) that Habakus mentions, consider also NVIC (National Vaccine Information Center) with Barbara Loe Fisher as its spokesperson.
As I said on another thread Mon. or Tues., do you know just what is being injected into your precious kids blood system, a system that is ‘closed’ for a reason? You might want to do some research.
Vaccines have virtually eradicated all kinds of deadly diseases. Whether or not the govt. should mandate them, is another story. I have no problem with the govt. funding free vaccines for those who WANT it. They can and have wasted far more money on much less important things. I have been vaccinated against probably everything that there is a commonly available vaccine for, since pre-school, and have lived a healthy life so far, I am 64. Because of vaccines, or in spite of? I don’t know, but the local rural cemetery is full of kids from my parents and grandparents generation who didn’t get vaccines. I’m glad I got ‘em....
Well the obvious point is, if you don’t bring in third worlder’s that are infected with any number of serious diseases that are now sitting next to your child in school there wouldn’t be such a need for vaccinations here. As long as most people are vaccinated the disease can’t propagate very well and dies out. In addition the vaccinations don’t cover everything being brought in over the border.
While I believe most vaccinations are a wonderful thing I don’t want government telling my what I have to inject in my body - period. It is a choice and choices have consequences. Freedom entails making choices that others do not think are best for you, even if they’re right. I’m not property of the state.
Whether lying or not, childhood diseases have been close to eradicated here in our nation. At the same time, we have not seen millions of U. S. kids harmed by the vaccines.
Of course you’ll see folks attribute ailments to them, but it’s a lot less likely than some folks think.
For instance you’ll see some folks swear they know of a person who contracted some serious ailment from a vaccine. Truth is in some instances those vaccine weren’t even a live virus vaccine. Another-words, they couldn’t have caught something from it.
We vaccinate to protect tens of millions of children. Hundreds of millions of people have been vaccinated.
How many people here on this forum today received the full spectrum of childhood vaccinations with no problems whatsoever? I did.
As for what a physician will say at any one time, there are times when they are simply tossing stuff out for family consumption. They don’t know much more than the family exactly what caused the problem.
People pretty much hear what they want to hear also. They want things in life to make sense, so they look for an answer when there are times when definitive answers don’t exist.
“I don’t see anything else that could have caused this” becomes, yes this exact thing did cause this. That’s not the exact same thing.
One day it will be a resurgence of polio. When thousands of children contract it and deaths and deformities result, people may wake up to how idiotic they have been.
Not holding my breath.
I believe people who consider themselves to be Conservatives can oppose vaccinations. Sad really.
Well, the government does try to force vaccinations. In a number of instances I agree with the government on this.
Pediatricians are not out there to inflict calamity on children. To believe that vaccinations cause a broad spectrum of injuries implies that all pediatricians are in on the big conspiracy.
Folks, get a grip.
Exactly my thoughts, better than I could have said it.
Thanks. I appreciate your positive feedback.
Especially since no shot is at least 50% effective.
It’s not the virus in the vaccine, it’s the adjuvents and other chemicals they contain that most have to worry about causing the damaging autoimmune response.
FYI, I have first hand experience in this area and have never met Jenny McCarthy. I’m also likely more right-wing that 80% of the folks on FR.
“... she would probably have gotten Guillan Barre if she got the flu as well if it was due to the flu shot.”
What a bull shit comment!
OK, let’s do some homework. I’ve don’t part of it for you to get you started:
http://www.thinktwice.com/secret.htm
the government KNOWS that vaccines injure people. Otherwise, this law would not have been created.

We can’t compare the vaccines people were given years ago with the ones being given now. The virus is there, but as you said, it is the adjuvents and other ingredients that are being questioned.
Most people want to have a vaccine to keep from getting something.
The sad thing is that people no longer trust the manufacturers who climb into bed with government.
Of course he's a liar. Everyone is a liar who disagrees with you, from all the way back in the first grade when you had to stab that kid with a crayon to stop him from lying about you, right up to today where you have to call someone a liar because they gave personal testimony that contradicts the notes you were given by Monsanto with your last paycheck.
Liars. All liars. And they're everywhere.
Actually, the statement is true. Her immune system was primed for this response to these immunogens. The flu shot is exposing your immune complex to create the right immunoglobulins so the flu can’t take hold in the body. Unfortunately, some people can be exposed to a virus or bacteria which triggers antibodies against the body’s own cell receptors. The immunoglobulins (antibodies) are looking for the right fit for a lock and key like system. In some people, like those with lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, the antibodies complexes with the host own cells and damage results. It is a horrible thing that there is no current marker to indicate which individuals are subject to self destruction of cells.
The immune system is a wonderful thing. Having your vaccines is not even subject for discussion for my profession. They are a must.
Not exactly. Unless you wish to claim that all lawsuits that are filed, or even all those where the jury finds for the defendant, are legally and scientifically justified.
The fact is that if companies making vaccines had not been given protection against these suits, no vaccines would have been made.
Not commenting at this point on whether vaccines are good or bad, only on why the law protecting makers was created.
The published official estimate of vaccine effectiveness for this season means that, for the general population, the flu shot is expected to reduce by 23% the need to visit the doctor with a case of the flu. In better years, the rate of vaccine effectiveness may exceed 70%.
Even when ineffective in preventing a case of the flu and a visit to the doctor, the vaccine tends to reduce its severity and to reduce transmission to others. Since a bad case of the flu can all too easily kill an elderly person, my parents, who are over 80, both get annual flu shots, as does virtually everyone they are regularly in contact with.
With a relatively small number of adverse events reported, the annual flu vaccine results in the sparing of hundreds if not thousands of lives, a major reduction in the burden of illness, and the saving of billions of dollars in medical costs. New vaccine technologies under development will in time make the annual flu shot safer, cheaper, and more effective.
In sum, there is no good public policy argument against the flu vaccine except to urge that it be made more effective and more widely accepted and administered.
