911 Operator in Fatal BW Parkway Crash to Teen: "Stop Whining"

A 911 operator told a teenage girl to "stop whining" just after her father was fatally struck by a car as he tried to change a flat tire along the Baltimore Washington Parkway in Maryland last weekend.
The dispatcher has now been placed "in a position where he won't have citizen contact" while authorities investigate what happened, an Anne Arundel County fire official said Wednesday.

Poor choice of words but despite the mob outrage it wasn’t meant to be nasty or anything.
I heard the audio and he needed her to calm down so he could understand and get the info.

That stretch of highway is pretty deadly. If you don’t get hit by a car while changing a tire, as this guy did, you’ll probably get robbed and shot.

I’ve seen considerably worse behavior out of 911 operators.
Chief Craig in Detroit had to threaten to charge 911 operators with crimes after operators told callers that police were on the way and didn’t bother to dispatch them. He named a couple of cases where people died waiting for police who weren’t coming.
One more reason he encourages people to arm and defend themselves.

Now THAT’S a fireable offense.
I also agree that better training would help but the hiring practices also leave a lot to be desired.

Hardly.... listen to the recording. The 911 operator didn’t say anything wrong.
The black teen was difficult to understand the the 911 operator needed to get the info ASAP.
