WHAT?!? No death penalty??? @%_*&@ they aren't sure they can knock down PTSD even though he was a sick monster before he went into the Marines and he never saw a day of combat.

Have you read about this guy? Crazy as a shithouse rat. There’s no way they’d get the death penalty, sad to say.

If he is certifiably insane he qualifies to have his own show on MSNBC.

No, no way! It was just another "random act of violence".... I'm sure.

No, but prob schizophenia combined with digging out kids bodies after the Haiti earthquake probably screwed him up. Everyone who knew him said he was messed up different after he was discharged. They all were afraid of him, institutionalized him twice, and set him up with this Kyle program thinking maybe it would help.
Guy was clearly a lunatic, and killed for some sick reason.

Despite the propaganda of the left, Texas really doesn’t execute the mentally i’ll, but they will lock them up for the rest of their life. Stephenville is right down the road from where it happened, they aren’t leftist there.

My totally personal opinion guess.

They guy was a psychopath - the “He liked to kill small animals” did it for me.

No, his records show he never left the ship at Haiti so no dead Haitians and no combat, either.

Started out with animals and had hoped to advance to humans in the military but looks like the Marines might have figured him out and kept him where he had no reason to use his weapons. He told big time lies about his “bravery” in the service for the attention and then finagled the PTSD card. Then he gets home and got his chance to move up to humans. Again, that goes with what I’ve suspected that he went after Kyle because of the fame it’d get him. More sad that Littlefield was drawn into it. The Rangers might want to look into any unsolved murders or missing persons as this can’t be his first human kill.

CBS evening news just reported Kyle was sitting in his truck and text Littlefield while at the gun range that Routh was straight up nuts. So, they knew he was wacko so should have already been aware.

Yes I saw that. I don’t understand why they didn’t just cancel the gun range right then. They had to know he was unstable.

It isn’t his record that shows that he never left the ship, it was statement by a Sergeant in his battalion saying that only ‘03s (grunts) would have gone.
That may or may not be true. Lots of guys in disaster relief are doing things way outside their MOS.

And actually, knowing Marines rather intimately, I would be surprised if H&S stayed on the ship, eating hot Navy chow and sleeping in a rack while grunts got to go police up all the dead bodies.

Could be proven wrong, but unless he had a damn good reason to be left on a ship, they would have been very likely to send bodies that had no urgent duty remaining aboard.
The matter should be easily proven soon though, one way or the other by the defense. It wouldn’t be possible for him to have gone ashore for a solo foray with nobody else knowing.

Interesting thought there about whether or not this was his first murder. Supposedly twice, he nearly beat someone to death in the Marines in an explosive rage where he thought someone was poking fun at him.
Interesting to know if anyone in his area has an unsolved murder where someone was beaten to death with no apparent motive.
That would sure be worth a look into and I would not be surprised if there was indeed one out there.

Hearing Kyle thought he was a nut, wonder if some innocent good natured joke or comment set him off?
I once had a coworker/subordinate utterly snap in rage at me over the phone when I told him something he had just said really sounded kinda nuts. Turned out later to be a nut, but at that time I had no clue he had the mentally ill background he did. But just hearing someone say he sounded nuts made him explode.
I think the crazy SOB woulda attacked me had we been in the same place.
He apologized later, but sure an attention getter.

But there’s little doubt this guy will go to prison for life. Texas has life without parole in death penalty cases. They charged Capitol Murder but said they wont be going for death. Wonder if life without parole option is the reason?

“They guy was a psychopath - the “He liked to kill small animals” did it for me.”

As a child (say 3rd grade?) we would hunt chipmunks at our cabin for “sport”. Birds were not allowed. I remember getting all mad at my buddy that shot a frog once. Not sure why I thought shooting a frog was wrong, but chipmunks were okay. Heck, if we had shot the frog and eaten it it would be okay by me now.

I can’t imagine shooting a chipmunk now, or letting my kids shoot one. We got a nickle a piece from the old guy next store. In hindsight, I’m guessing he had a bird-feeder for the birds, but the chipmunks ate the seed instead.

Off topic I guess - but I still haven’t become a whacked out killer. However, I have heard of some terrible stuff done by kids to animals. (I knew a kid from Vietnam years ago that said they would catch a rat, dump gas on it, light it on fire and then watch the hillarity - sicko.)
