Police agencies say goodbye to iconic Crown Victoria, roll out new cop cars
Orange County Register ^ | February 16, 2015 | Sandra Stokley and Scott Schwebke

That icon of police transportation, a vehicle so sturdy and beloved and ubiquitous that it became virtual wallpaper on TV cop shows and local streets – the Ford Crown Victoria – is dead.

The upshot is this: For many police agencies, it’s time to buy a new car.

Ford stopped making the Crown Vic four years ago, saying sales to the public had fallen to the point that the car is no longer viable, even if demand from police agencies remained strong. Fuel efficiency (or in the Crown Vic’s case, inefficiency) played a role.

Can we pretend that the Charger is a reinstatement of the old Plymouth Fury III?

Yeah that is right, the Javelin.

Javelins didn't have a rear seat...Odd for a cop car...

Spider Chains!

When I get my SUV this winter I’m getting those too.

Takes 30 seconds to put em on...

Javelins were two door but I am pretty sure they had a small back seat.

I doubt any true unibody can take the punishment they could withstand.

All the old Furys and Satellites were unibodies. They did just fine.

I remember visiting Rapid City, South Dakota in the early 1980’s and seeing Volvos (with turbos) as the standard police patrol car.

Falls Church, VA had them in the mid-80s

My first car was a Fury III. 1967. Loved that car.

Beloved!

Beloved by government agencies as long as WE pay for the fuel! And I am happy to do so, for so I love my protectors

in these gas guzzling wonder-machines

which are designed to INTERCEPTOR us when we need INTERCEPTORING

For so we do, for we are weak

and law enforcement must be strong

on the local level, strong!

on the state level, strong!

on the national level, strong!

When you see the Crown Vic FEAR!

FEAR the GOVERNMENT

which is by you

and for you

You do not need strength, or arms,

you need SAFETY STOPS!

You need SAFETY CHECKS!

You need SAFETY SEARCHES for your SAFETY!

For your safety is your strength

and your strength is their strength,

and theirs is yours!

We had a few Furies too and a couple of Chevy Impalas. The Chevy’s were faster than the Crown Vics (at least that was my experience) but the Crown Vics were more comfortable.

I remember getting in a chase on the interstate. The piece of junk Crown Vic I had would barely do 65 mph. I was so embarrassed, had my foot to the floor, lights and sirens and barely keeping up with traffic.
