Justice Department declines to pursue charges against George Zimmerman

The Department of Justice announced Tuesday that it would not pursue federal criminal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement that the Department of Justice’s investigation found that the evidence available could not meet the “high standard for a federal hate crime prosecution,” though he called the death a “devastating tragedy” that “shook an entire community, drew the attention of millions across the nation, and sparked a painful but necessary dialogue.”

Story Continued Below

Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman on Feb. 26, 2012 on his way home from a trip to a local convenience store. Zimmerman, who was volunteering as neighborhood watch, claimed that Martin was acting suspiciously and fired at the teenager.

Zimmerman was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in Florida, but was acquitted in July 2013.

The federal investigation had been aimed at determining whether or not Zimmerman had violated Martin’s civil rights by targeting him because of his race.

“Our decision not to pursue federal charges does not condone the shooting that resulted in the death of Trayvon Martin and is based solely on the high legal standard applicable to these cases,” Acting Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta said in a statement. “[I]t is important to remember that this incident resulted in the tragic loss of a teenager’s life.”

St. Trayvon engaged in a hate crime when he assaulted a “creepy ass cracker” (or was that “creepy asscracker”?).

Civil now? Not that he has deep pockets or anything.

“the death a “devastating tragedy””

Yes, Zimmerman’s life was ruined by a thug who attacked him and tried to kill him. That is a devastating tragedy.

Only thing that could have been worse would be if the thug was not put down.

Zimmerman, who was volunteering as neighborhood watch, claimed that Martin was acting suspiciously and fired at the teenager in self-defense as is his legal right, after the unarmed teenager began beating him and causing severe bodily injury

Leftists always lie.

In most states, the finding of justifiable homicide blocks any lawsuit by a thug’s family.

Not sure if that is the case in Florida. I vaguely recall the homeowners’ association paying money to the thug family very early. I suppose that can get a lot of purple drank.

Holy crap, read the description of events from the article:
Zimmerman, who was volunteering as neighborhood watch, claimed that Martin was acting suspiciously and fired at the teenager.

Nothing like that happened. The media are ingrate liars who serve no useful purpose.

I don’t think they are ever gonna let this one drop. I think they will come up with new charges ranging from disturbing racial harmony to new forms of vigilante charges to anything they can think of. This story is still oxygen for the racial arsonists’ fire.

Meaning 1) that there was no case against him (duh!) and 2) that pursuing him would be of no further benefit to the Rat Party.

Sure took them long enough to determine they had no basis to prosecute; I wonder how many hours of tax money was wasted in this communist Department of Injustice pursuit to determine that, “what difference does it make” it’s not Holders money.

“This decision is limited strictly to the department’s inability to meet the high legal standard
required to prosecute the case under the federal civil rights statutes; it does not reflect an
assessment of any other aspect of the shooting,” the Justice Department said in a news release
announcing the decision Tuesday.

t. Trayvon engaged in a hate crime when he assaulted a “creepy ass cracker” (or was that “creepy asscracker”?).

The only assault that took place that night was with Travon ambushed GZ from the bushes. That was also the only crime that took place in this incident.

Provable truth and fact do get in the way of irrational and dishonest liberal lies and rants.

It took the Just Us Dept. three years to figure out what the Sanford PD knew in less than 24 hours. It was self defense.
