CNN - Russian authorities arrested two men Saturday in the murder of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, Russian state media reported.

Nemtsov, one of President Vladimir Putin's outspoken critics, was gunned down with a pistol on a Moscow bridge across from the Kremlin in late February.

Surveillance video showed someone darting from the sidewalk and into a nearby car right after he collapsed.

Either that or another apartment building in Moscow will be blown up in a mysterious way.

I’ll place my bet on 2 Ukrainians. With a side bet for light sentence or even mistrial.

I’m betting on a mob vendetta of a personal nature. Nemtsov apparently was noted for his affairs and had serial “Natashas,” all models, and one of them, unfortunately, was a girl who had been considered the property of a Moscow mobster.

The article mentioned that the arrested men were Chechens, but that wouldn’t be surprising, since they are very big in the criminal world in Russia.

Criminals often contract out crimes to those least likely to be associated with the beneficiary. Putin’s fully capable of this and has been involved with many murders.

Putin can blow them up and kill anyone who investigates, like he did before.

The only problem with the Putin-done-it scenario is that he wasn’t the beneficiary. It galvanized enough people who were opposed to him that they had a massive demonstration in Moscow and also this is being used against him by all of the other parties. The ones who benefitted were actually the opposition to Putin.

He didn’t get where he is by being stupid, and it’s hard to believe he wouldn’t have foreseen this result.

Yeah, the Chechens did it.

50 meters from the Kremlin, where there are video cameras on every light post.

And all we’ve seen is the grainy film from long range.

I disagree. This is a deliberate signal, a public escalation and warning. Even picking Chechens at the goats is deliberate. Where the hit took place is comparable to the street outside the White House or Capitol. There are cameras, uniformed police and hidden police every 100 meters. Doing the hit here, where the victim felt safe simply because he believed Putin would never dare order a hit so close to the Kremlin, was a deliberately taken signal. No more poisonings, no more fake muggings, just a professional hit with a professional team. Six shots on target in under two seconds from two shooters.

“The Chechens did it” is another signal. Not only will we kill our enemies in professional hits, we’ll laugh about it and mock you and give you both middle fingers.

“What are you going to do about it?” is Putin’s clear message.

Nothing.

That sounds like a, semi-believable, convenient explanation that in no way leads back to Putin. What is the source of that information, Russian agit-prop agencies?

In Russian media, there are a half-dozen theories concerning the origin of the assassination.

NONE of them include Putin, the FSB, etc.

There in no free media in Russia, none.

You would fit right in on the OJ Jury: “How does OJ benefit? If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit!”
