Interesting how managers in the public sector get overtime. We managers in the private sector are classified exempt and do not get such benefit. Work 80 hours a week and get the specified wage with no overtime added.

And we are lucky if we get comp time or even get to take out vacations. Last year my comp time was taking off Friday afternoon at 4pm.

Hahaha, overpaid government workers being paid overtime is a sign of a strong economy... A strong arm economy maybe.

Bingo. 50 to 70 hours a week for 40 hours pay has been the norm for me for the last 30 years. My hours were cut, so I'm only getting paid for 32 hours now. Still working 50 to 70 to deliver on requirements. The customer gets billed the full amount for "40 hours" of labor, but gets 50 to 70 hours for that amount of money. No extra pay or comp time except when the customer directs the extra labor and agrees to pay for it. That has happened 3 time in the last 10 years.

I like my job. I'm working from my home office again after 5 years on an "out of town" business trip fully at my expense. The 32 hours works fine now that I have no commute, no rent or utilities and I can use my kitchen instead of going to dinner.

I've only had ONE week where I jammed 80 hours into a Monday through Friday work week. Most of the time I spread it over 7 days. A very miserable week.

There is a lot of overtime in the department of corrections. Overtime is granted by seniority so the highest paid get the work at time and a half. Let’s say the highest paid is $40 an hour. They make $60 on overtime so 150% of top pay.

If they hired more intermittent employees at the entry pay, say $24 an hour plus 30% for benefits, that would be $32 an hour. They would save $28 an hour for each of hundreds of thousands of hours of over time each year.

The OT counts towards their pension retirement calculation as well. As does any unused sick or vacation time, which AFAIK they can accrue without limit. So if you play the game right, your 75K base salary can score you six figure pension. Then the best players put in for a disability claim so most of the pension ends up tax free. Some minor reforms have been put in place to reduce the rape, but not nearly enough by far.
