Sen. Cruz Described as "Smartest Man in the Room" by Harvard Professor Dershowitz
woai news ^ | 2013

Famed attorney Alan Dershowitz told 1200 WOAI's Michael Board during a stop in San Antonio that Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was an amazing student when he had Cruz in his class twenty years ago at Harvard Law School, 1200 WOAI news reports.

"He had come to the school with a reputation as a great debater, the national champ," said Dershowitz, who called Cruz 'the smartest person in the room. "He contributed greatly to Harvard Law School. While I disagree immensely with many of his political positions, I admire his intellect."

Dershowitz, who is the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard, is one of the preeminent constitutional attorneys in the country. He is a prolific writer and commentator and has defended people involved in some of the highest profile cases in U.S. history. He was in San Antonio as part of the Trinity University Policymaker Breakfast Series.

"Ted was one of the brightest students we ever had, but not a man known for compromising his principles."

Cruz, 42, has become a leader of the conservative wing of the Republican Party and has been leading the effort to defund Obamacare and carry out other priorities in the U.S. Senate.

Dershowitz says Cruz will have to learn a thing or two if he expected to be truly successful in politics.

"You would definitely want one Ted Cruz in the Senate," he said. "DO you want more than one? That's a hard question."

He says Cruz will have to learn to compromise if he plans to be truly effective in a political career.

Methinks Dershy is trying to smear Cruz with that comment

Debate-wise....I don’t think any of the current Republican runners can touch him. Walker might have a good resume, do some three-star debates, and has experience. But if you had a debate between Cruz and Hillary....they’d have to go and find the most corrupted news guy to ask question in existence today...to help carry Hillary across to the public.

Acknowledging that Senator Cruz is the smartest man in the room possibly Dershowitz should reconsider his stand on some of the issues. It’s past time for another Thomas Jefferson.

He says Cruz will have to learn to compromise if he plans to be truly effective in a political career.

Why? Obama doesn't compromise at all and he is very effective at getting what he wants.

Of course, the opposition party for Cruz will be relentless while the GOP just rolls over for Obama.

Dershowitz has also said that Obama was not smart enough to be in his class.

Name ONE instance of Obama compromising on anything.

Now that Obama has made the presidency a dictatorship, why would he need to compromise? Just break out the pen and the phone.

Does not take brains to be a progressive. You can be dumb or smart and still be a progressive. Being a progressive requires the following skills: obedience to large government; selective memory; disengenousness; ability to lie at will; never admitting you lost or were wrong; hatred for capitalism; etc etc. Brains has nothing to do with being a progressive.

Absolutely no evidence of his intellect has been presented.

Libs strictly go by his speechifying ability (which is actually remarkable) and not by any accomplishment or other objective measure.

Obamacare. You and I both know perfectly well he really wanted full-blown British (or maybe Cuban) style socialized medicine.

“Libs strictly go by his [Obama’s] speechifying ability (which is actually remarkable) ...”

Only when the TelePrompter is rolling. With no TelePrompter or when it jams, Obama is remarkably inarticulate.

I agree about the “off teleprompter” articulation - thus my assessment of a sub 100 IQ. But, with the proper reverb, he sure can make nothing sound like something.

Yes; he reminds me of the Peter Sellers character (Chance, the gardener) in the movie “Being There.”

Alan Dershowitz is an all-around leftist scumbag and hypocrite, but I really don’t see this as a black mark against Cruz. If even your political enemies admit that you’re very smart, you’re doing something right.
