The president and CEO of The Associated Press called on Monday for changes to international laws that would make it a war crime to kill journalists or take them hostage.
Gary Pruitt said a new framework is needed to protect journalists as they cover conflicts in which they are increasingly seen as targets by extremist groups. [ ]
Last year was a particularly deadly year for the APfour of the news cooperatives journalists were killed on assignment. Globally, 61 journalists were killed in the line of duty in 2014, bringing to more than 1,000 the number who have died since 1992, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. [ ]
Pruitt said existing international laws should be updated to protect journalists. He proposed creating a new protocol to the Geneva Conventions to make the killing of a journalist a specific war crime. He also suggested adapting articles of the International Criminal Court, which deals with war crimes, to specifically cover journalists.

What about Treason and sedition by journalists?....
Maybe, probably, even espionage.... i.e. Benghazi..
In a wise fair country.. a Gang Scaffold for HANGING would be built..
To PROCESS all or most of them..
as they PROTECT SHIELD a treasonous president.. AND most of the Executive Branch of Givernment..
AND PURGING THE MILITARY..
Tar and feathers was eclipsed a long time ago...
It’s time to get serious..
I don’t see why a journalist should be any different than other civilians. I’m reasonably sure that specifically targeting civilians is a war crime, so why the call for redundancy?
Does this include the activist journalists who throw bottles and rocks at police to instigate riots?
Does this include treasonous journalists who embed with terrorists and are on record saying that they would not notify the US of knowledge of planned attacks?
FUBO
I was going to say it should be encouraged.
Maybe we should start with a bag limit.
He’d stand up for Lord Haw Haw, Axis Sally, and Tokio Rose, this president would.
“I was going to say it should be encouraged.”
God forbid, but if it should ever come to shooting here, I think it would be ammo well spent if used on them.
How about taunting them a little bit?
Special rules for Special People....
The MSM is the Fifth Column for Obama and the LibFacists—In other words, they are the enemy in an all but declared war against productive, law-abiding citizens who only want to be left alone.
Take out the media and the Left’s ability to further degrade the US is seriously curtailed.
But, if you’re squeamish about offing them outright, would you settle for a bounty on their scalps?
I think it may fall under the endangered species act rather than war crimes. Real journalists have been very hard to find for some time.
They once had great protection but they sacrificed it on the altar of leftism. That being if any cause or government purposely killed a journalist(s), they would never again be able to get or buy positive press for all the love or money in the world. It’s now those on their side who are killing them. Their only response now it to blame any journo killed on almost everything but the Clymers who did it.
Start actually reporting real news, telling the truth, and not burying stories and you will get some sympathy from us.
How can a public service be a war crime ??? /s
It should be a war crime unless of course the reporter is from a conservative/republican agency
I despise laws that give preferential treatment of one group over another.
Mandatory death sentence if you kill a cop. INJUSTICE
Mandatory war crime if you kill a journalist. INJUSTICE
These liberal ideas just foster a class system that is in direct conflict with equal protection and individualism as envisioned by our Founders.
Only if journalists wear day-glo jumpsuits.
The AP president is just another "stooge" with a BAD idea that primarily makes only him feel good... as well as justifying his own existence.
Sometimes. Other times, the killers deserve a medal. Thanks Olog-hai.
And who will enforce this? Who will bring ISIS to justice?
This is a law only enforceable against someone who gives a darn, like the US. And when you consider that the jihadists used "journalists" as their spies, agents, and propagandists, when you consider that even legitimate journalists have put themselves in the thick of the fighting, such a law is not enforceable. It is just another attempt to do the impossible, which is litigate war.
If it can be litigated, it isn't war. If it is war, you can't litigate it. It just has to play itself out.
