Evil designs of Iranian regime should be exposed, say Saudi intellectuals

Dr. Mahmoud Zaini, former member of the Makkah Literary Club, said the Yemeni campaign came to ward off dangers not only to Yemen but to the Gulf region as a whole, and whose leaders felt posed a direct threat to their security and stability. The operation has stopped the situation in Yemen from deteriorating further and will accelerate the political process in the country as demonstrated by deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh who called for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis promising that he would not run for presidential elections, Zaini said. For his part, Awadh Al-Jimaie, professor of literature at Umm Al-Qura University, said the operation has shown the preparedness of the Saudi armed forces and their ability to repulse any danger to the Kingdom. This courageous decision has confirmed that the Kingdom will not stand idly by on seeing that the region is being threatened by entities with their own agendas who are looking to recreate their past in the Arab region, he said.

That's just wonderful! What do those Saudi intellectuals say about opening the gates to Ijtihad? It's not a rhetorical question and it's directed to those who describe themselves as "moderate" Muslims.

I won't hold my breath.

Not sure what you found - my understanding of the term derives from reading Robert Spencer's works. The drift I got was that in the couple of centuries after Mohammed there was actually some "interpretation" of the Koran going on. This swiftly ossified and whatever was in the Koran, the haditha, and a few other early texts became the inalterable dogma of Islam. The "gates of ijtihad," as I understand it, referred to actual discourse on the doctrines of Islam. Those gates are obviously shut tight now, as they have been for centuries.

I welcome any comments from anyone who can elucidate me further on this topic. I am not a scholar of Islam, and do not pretend to be.

That makes sense. Is basically what I found.

For some reason I thought it would equate to gates of Hell. Shows where my mind is at, I guess.

On the Dennis Miller radio show the other night I heard a Muslim say Ijtihad, or independent reasoning, is a sin in Islam. That would explain so much.

That is my understanding as well - which is why there is no way out this morass for Western Civilization, or what is left of it, but to defeat Islam militarily as at Tours and Lepanto, and to defeat Islam intellectually in free discourse. The former is not, I submit, something that the Western Nations are willing to undertake - the cost in lives is apparently to much for them to swallow. The latter is not something that contemporary society will countenance - paradoxically, in the name of "equal rights," this Nation has emasculated the God-given rights we have as stated in the First Amendment - Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Assembly, Freedom of the Press, and the Right to Petition for Redress of Grievances.

Am I at fault for this? The answer is probably yes. I should have spoken out more and earlier. I didn't, and I am sorry that I didn't.

I stand now, with what remaining strength and skill I may have.

We are going to need all the strength we can muster in the
coming struggle. We will not be allowed to dispute Islam intellctually as a consequence our only choice will be to resist or submit.

Indeed! How can one have an intellectual discourse with someone who believes that Allah is not bound by the Laws of Science, but can suspend them at will?

I wonder if these are the same “intellectuals” who ban Bibles and publicly declare Islam should destroy all Christian churches in the Mid East?
