According to our weather forecasters during February, the problem was that the western and mid-western U.S. were experiencing warmer than normal weather, and as that warm weather moved into New England, it hit the cold arctic air.
The fact that that pattern continued throughout the month is what contributed to our terrible winter week-end after week-end.
This is total nonsense as a quick look at this year’s and last year’s March temperatures clearly shows.

Did the WaPo get punked?
Tail wags dog. What was the temp at the South Pole.
Note, that piece of ground was located near the Earth’s equator at the time the vegetation was growing. Continental drift has since moved that piece of ground into the higher latitudes.
Fairbanks, Alaska, which is roughly 150 miles south of Arctic Circle is actually closer to the North Pole than this base is to the South Pole. Fairbanks, of course, is a much larger city than this oceanside base. As an inland city it has, of course, recorded much higher temperatures (99F. in July 1937) as well as much lower temperatures (-66F. in January 1954).
Oceans tend to moderate temperatures on both ends of the scale. Who knew?
Celsius temp 16 is around 60 degree F, so grant-seekers could push the envelope a little.
Well then come on over to Upstate NY!!! We still have snow! Lots of it! Even received a fresh one inch snowfall Saturday night! Temps at night are still below 10 degrees! It has been the most brutal winter I can recall in the past 17 years. March did not march forward into Spring, it reverted back to February.
Where is that global warming everyone refers to?
It’s high summer in Antarctica.
Thanks!
I was thinking the same thing, but, didn’t get here fast enough. They don’t even get the 24 hours of darkness/light there.
If they do, it would probably be measured in days rather than weeks. I’ve heard that America’s northernmost city (Barrow, Alaska) doesn’t see daylight from late November until late January and doesn’t see dark from late May until late July.
On July 10 1913 it was 134 degrees in Death Valley. Records are made to be broken but I would have never guessed it would happen in Antarctica.
Time to shut it down, SHUT IT ALL DOWN!!!!!
LOL!
Plus, there’s absolutely NO chance that grant-seeking “warmunist” fake scientists on-site tampered with the recording gear... LOL! :)
