Highest temperature ever recorded? There is coal under the surface so it was tropical at one time. No one was there to record the temperatures. No one was there to record the coldest temperatures either.

Note, that piece of ground was located near the Earth’s equator at the time the vegetation was growing. Continental drift has since moved that piece of ground into the higher latitudes.
